"Working with Juan and his team at Medina Environmental was hands down the easiest and most painless process for getting work done on a house I've ever had. Juan was incredibly responsive to all of my questions related to the work they were doing, timelines, and even some questions about other work I needed done on the house that technically were out of the scope of our agreement. He was patient with all of my questions, and very helpful. It's clear that Juan really understands his craft, as he is able to succinctly explain all aspects of all the work to be done in a way that is understandable by people who are not in the industry. This is a clear indication that he and his team are professional and knowledgeable. I was educated fully on the process of removal and informed that there would be a 10-day waiting period after the removal had been filed. This gave me peace of mind to have a clear understanding of the start and end dates. The work was done quickly, by the time promised, and all the deliverables outlined in the summary of work were completed to my satisfaction. Once the job was completed, Juan ensured I quickly received the manifest to prove that the asbestos was disposed of properly and in accordance with regulation. I would recommend his team, and I will definitely utilize them on any project going forward that has services in the scope of their skill sets."

"Rick & his team were amazing!!! They came on time, were prepared with equipment and did a fantastic job. They explained everything before they did it, explained the process and the tests. They were the only company I interviewed who guaranteed the work for mold removal. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who needs water mitigation or mold services. I'm very impressed and happy I decided to use them on my home. They did an excellent job, I can't say enough good things. It was a great experience."

"Mr. John understood the importance of getting the home inspection done professionally and quickly. He understood that I was under a very tight schedule. And he thankfully worked our home into his schedule. He did a very thorough job and found some major safety issues. Which allowed us to go back to the seller and have them fix those problems. I cannot say enough good about Mr. John we are very thankful"

"I would highly recommend Chuck (AHR) and will be using them for other projects that arise. They did what they said they were going to do as per our original contract. There were some added extras for unforeseen damage that I was expecting. That additional cost was very fair. I live 250 miles away and they handled everything for me. Chuck was very good about keeping me informed about work and scheduling. I didn't come down until everything was completed. When I got there, you wouldn't have known anything had been wrong. Everything was cleaned, vacuumed, and no debris left anywhere.I am a contractor with over 40 years experience and that showed that they took pride in what they do. Highly recommend."

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

Lead removal is crucial in older homes to eliminate risks of lead poisoning, which can severely affect health, particularly in children, by impacting development and cognitive functions.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Lead testing prior to purchasing a property ensures that the new owners are informed about potential hazards, prevents health risks associated with lead poisoning, and facilitates timely remediation.

You can sell a house with lead paint, but there are several requirements. If you are aware that lead paint exists anywhere in the home, you must disclose that to potential buyers. Required home inspections will often uncover lead paint, especially for older houses where lead paint may still be a problem. If you have taken steps to encapsulate lead, you should provide buyers with full documentation of the project so it won’t cause any problems later on.

At-home lead tests can provide accurate results if used correctly, and if the kits are reputable and certified. They vary in sensitivity and methodology, influencing their accuracy. Follow instructions meticulously, ensuring proper sample collection and test execution. While they can detect elevated lead levels, for precise confirmation or if results are concerning, consider professional testing or lab analysis for comprehensive accuracy and guidance on addressing any issues.
