While it’s possible to install carpet yourself, it’s best to hire a local carpet installer to ensure it’s done correctly and safely. Before installing carpet yourself, check whether the manufacturer’s warranty will remain intact. The knee kicker tool that attaches carpet to tack strips offers some stretching capabilities, so you can use this and your own arm strength to stretch out thinner carpets across a room. But you should buy or rent a stretcher for the best possible carpet application. If you don’t want to buy or rent a stretcher, it may be worth it to skip the DIY and leave this job to the pros or risk shortening the life of your new carpet by installing it without a stretcher.
