"Seven months in and my floors still look brand new! Patrick installed hardwood in the majority of my house. I had never worked with him before, but I'm glad I did. They were fast, clean, and professional. I am still thrilled with these floors and the workmanship put into them. Plus whatever top coat he put on has proven pretty life proof, even with a dog."

"Chris was prompt in calling and came out immediately for an estimate and then was patient through problems getting the glass tile. He did the back splash in the kitchen. He was thorough and professional throughout and the back splash looks great. I would definitely recommend and will call him again for my next projects."

"Trevor helped me renovate a 1910 farmhouse including a kitchen and two bathrooms. He can do just about everything: flooring, drywall, plaster, cabinetry, painting, insulation, demolition, minor electrical, carpentry - you name it. He does beautiful tile work. He also helped me coordinate with both my plumbers and electricians so the job went smoothly. He is very upfront with his pricing and very fair. He also has great design sense. I plan to use Uphill Designs again in the future."

"Once I sent her all the measurements, it took her a little while to get the options back to me.  Overall, they're good designs.  However, they're very simplistic and give general ideas for space planning.  I was hoping to have a better idea for sizes of furniture for the space and some variations on staging.
Jill was very responsive when I did have a question.  I'm not sure how helpful it is to have a virtual design done.  If we lived in similar cities, I'd probably use her again for help with additional designs.

"Whit was the general contractor for our commercial building renovation. She was hands on with all of the tile projects, reroofing, window installs, door installs, kitchen renovation and many finish carpentry projects, as well. She has great attention to detail and was an essential part of our renovation. She was professional, a great communicator and a good team leader. She handled our many different contractors and the inspector throughout our renovation project in a professional and effective manner. Her invoicing was always well organized and timely. I can not recommend her more as a contractor."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Tile will almost always last longer than laminate flooring, regardless of the type of tile installed. Porcelain tile can last for 75 years or more with proper care, and even less durable ceramic tile will last for 60 years or more, provided they’re installed by a tile professional. On the other hand, laminate flooring has an average lifespan of around 20 years, and you might only get 10 to 15 years out of low-cost laminate flooring. As such, tile will add far more value to your home than laminate.

Granite countertops cost an average of $3,250 compared to $2,250 for tile countertops. Granite is also harder to DIY than tile, given its weight and bulk, which increases the overall labor cost of installation. Over time, both types of countertops may need sealing to remain resistant to water, heat, and other common kitchen elements.

You can, in theory, tile your fireplace hearth with most tiles. However just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. For example, it’s much better to use unglazed tiles because glazed tiles are more resistant to cracking under extreme heat. Porcelain is more heat-resistant than ceramic, but you can still design the hearth as you like by putting the most heat-resistant tiles directly under the fire and, if it matches your style, add more decorative tiles further from the center of the fire.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

Regrouting is cheaper than retiling, and it involves less work. Grout is available in a wide range of colors, making it a cost-effective way to improve the look of any tiled area in your home.
