"I hired GetAGrip to refinish/paint all the cabinets in my house (kitchen and 3 bathrooms). It was a large project since I have 55 cabinets and 20 drawers in my house. I had honey oak finished cabinets and I selected a gray color for the kitchen and a similar color for the bathrooms. It took them about 10 days overall to complete the project (I was not home when they did the work, the smell is bad and they had to disassemble all the cabinets and move out all the appliances). Overall I am happy with the job and I like how the cabinets look in my home. I would recommend GetAGrip if you are looking to get your cabinets refinished. Pros: - Nice durable product and even color - Helpful suggestions on colors and what to have finished - Kept on schedule - Overall great look - Came in to address “punch list” quickly and effectively - Very friendly crew Cons: - Severely underquoted initial bid (30% difference) - Problems with not returning calls or showing up at scheduled times - Uneven finish to the product, some areas are shiny and others are flat - Care taken with my home (things were left dirty, sliding door left unlocked, overspray and scratched refrigerator) - Attention to detail, punch list had ~20 items, most should have been noticed by the crew"

"This was the most straight foreword, honest, experience I had with a contractor. Pedro and his team quoted accurately and installed a beautiful granite kitchen countertop. He worked with my short timeline."

"Dylan is a gem! He responded promptly to my request for a quote, followed through with consistent communication, and was a pleasure to work with. He repaired a granite kitchen countertop and did so in the cleanest way possible by keeping his vacuum host taped to the location where he was grinding down the edges of our counter. He also showed up on time, went and purchased an additional item to shine the new edge of our countertop, and cleaned up after himself. I will definitely use him again!"

"Excellent communication from beginning to post installation made them super easy to work with Installers were on time, did a great job, were patient and helpful when we needed to make a last minute change in design. On top of all that they actually cleaned up before they left rather than leaving a mess like so many contractors do. They do a lot more than quartz countertop installation, and I would definitely go back to them for any future projects."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Rounded countertop edges, like bullnose or eased edges, are the least likely to chip. Their smooth, curved design helps distribute impact more evenly, unlike sharp corners, which often take the brunt of a hit. Also, unlike pointed edges, rounded edges won't snag on material like dishcloths or clothing.

Both marble and quartz are decent kitchen countertop choices for different reasons. Marble provides an elegant look that’s sure to attract eyeballs, which can add value to a home. However, this isn’t the most durable material around and is easily scratched and stained. Quartz may not offer a classic look like marble, but it is available in a wide range of colors and patterns. It’s also durable, with the ability to resist scratches and stains.

Formica® is a brand name for the laminate countertops it produces. Laminate is the generic term for a countertop material made from layers of paper topped with an image layer, all compressed under high pressure to form a solid, easy-to-maintain surface. Other brands that produce laminate countertops include WilsonArt® and Arborite®.

When comparing Formica to other laminates, the choice often comes down to personal preference. Formica is a popular brand known for its durability and affordability. Due to its brand recognition, it may be slightly more expensive than generic laminate options, but the name often carries an expectation of a certain quality standard.

No, in most cases, you do not have to remove your countertops to reface cabinets. Since refacing primarily involves updating the doors, drawer fronts, and exterior surfaces, your existing countertops can usually stay right where they are, making the process quicker and less disruptive. However, if your counters prevent the access needed to remove doors and drawers, they may need to be temporarily removed. It's best to consult with a professional cabinet contractor to assess your specific kitchen layout during an estimate.

Since knowing how to install countertops correctly requires in-depth knowledge and understanding of the topic, we recommend hiring a professional countertops installer near you to work on this project. Kitchen countertops are a high-visibility investment, meaning mistakes made during DIY installation will be easy to spot, may cause damage, and potentially require re-purchasing materials. Professional countertop installers have the skills, tools, and experience to place your new kitchen feature safely and correctly.
