"In preparation for selling our home we hired Sanchez to paint the complete interior, which included quite a lot of old wallpaper in the kitchen and the master bathroom. They also painted the dated old brown oak kitchen cabinets to a more contemporary medium grey. Everything was going well, the house was empty, we had a lock box set up so the crew came and went each day with an anticipated 6 or 7 day completion for all the work we had requested. We left on a short trip and when we returned we realized that the living areas of the house that were suppose to be painted a light grey, were not that color at all. Jay responded to my panicked phone call, came immediately and 2 days later the paint was fixed. Turns out that the paint company mixed the paint incorrectly. Even though the job took 2 extra days, Jay made it right and the crews that came out to paint were great, they let us work around them to do what we needed to do at the same time. "He did good, but later we realized many of the holes were patched uneven and required additional.work. We had to pay the painter to fix. In fairness to Al, we never called him back because we worried about the amount of time it would take to get him back workout interrupting the painter "
While peel-and-stick wallpapers require no time to cure, the adhesives for other types of papers will take a day or two to dry and up to three weeks to fully cure. The differences are the type of paper, the type of adhesive, and the humidity and temperature in the space.
To layer wallpaper over wallpaper, inspect your existing wallpaper for problem areas. Damaged wallpaper should not be covered. If it’s okay to proceed, prep by turning off the electricity and removing any outlet and switch covers. Dust your walls and lightly rinse them to prevent the existing paper from peeling. Apply primer, then apply your new wallpaper.
To determine how many rolls of peel-and-stick wallpaper you need, measure the square footage of the walls you’re covering and divide that by the square footage that each roll covers. Add 10% to 20% of your total square footage to account for pattern matching or damage while installing.
It’s possible to hang your own wallpaper, but the process is tedious and potentially frustrating, and it can be challenging to get seams to line up and look clean and professional. Plus, depending on the type of wallpaper you’re installing, using too much or too little adhesive could cause damage to your drywall or plaster, peeling, and bubbling in the final product. It’s usually a better idea to hire a professional wallpaper installer to do the work for you, as the relatively low cost is justifiable, if only to avoid damage to your walls.
