Plumbing
$400

They were going to order a replacement but it didn't happen after about a month so I said, just refund me the money. It took them about two months  to refund it back to my VISA and they didn't refund the plumbing installation cost because they said it had cost them for repairs under warranty. It seems to me that the company doesn't do what they say or at least corporate doesn't try to make things right. It took about 6 1/2 months from the time I ordered it until I got some money back. I had to keep phoning every few weeks just to get what I got.

Flooring, Carpet Installation
$35
Went in to Lowe's to look at carpet and, in a moment of weakness,  purchased a measuring appointment  for $35 and rented a carpet sample  for $25.  After talking to another vendor, realized there was no reason to pay for a measuring appointment and that the Lowe's saleswoman had recommended a very  poor choice of carpet for my project, simply because it was the only carpet they had in the color I wanted (charcoal gray/black color family).  Decided to go with the other vendor, whose advice was better and whose price was better for the total job.

The experience was wonderful. The sales lady was very, very helpful and informative. She recommended and pointed us in the right direction and we got just what we wanted. They were very punctual.

Their prices are a lot better than some of the smaller stores. They had some good promotions and that is why I purchased appliances. They told us that a refrigerator was oversold and it could be 8-10 days for the order to be shipped to the store. It was twice as long. We also bought a washer and dryer and it was supposed to be in within 2-4 weeks and it took 8 weeks. I kept getting mixed signals on when it would be in. I was getting calls that it was in and then when I called they said they made a mistake and it wasn?t in. I complained to the manager and asked for the CEO phone number. They ended up giving me an additional 10-20 percent discount so I wouldn't contact the CEO. They made a deal because of all the inconveniences. It was always longer than they estimated.

I lived closer to them and I bought them right when I was in the process of moving further south from that area. The sale ended pretty much that day and I was looking and shopping around. I just made a decision to buy all those things before the sale ended. Initially they were quite helpful, but the amount of time that was estimated before the stock came in again was unrealistic. They told me that 2 out of the 4 kitchen appliances were available then, but that the refrigerator would take about 2 weeks. However it turned out to be more than 2 weeks because they mentioned that they wouldn?t deliver it on weekdays and would deliver on weekends. They said that the washer and dryer would take about 2 or 3 weeks. It turned out to be about 6 weeks before I got it. If I had known that it would take 6 weeks, I would not have bought it. They kept changing what they said. People would call me saying that it was ready and after I would have gone to the store, the same day, then they will end up giving me another 2 weeks. Their operation was pretty much a mess to me.

Overall, the experience with the people at the store has been positive. When I have questions, I am typically able to find one of the associates, and they have been able to answer my questions, or guide me to the products that I am looking for. Their prices are competitive. You find a mixture of people with various levels of professionalism in various departments. An individual at the hand-tools department, for example, was very knowledgeable and professional, while those at the check-out counters are just performing their job, and you can judge that they are not very knowledgeable about the products, or helpful with your questions.

We went in & looked at something & then left. It was good & we really didn't interact with anyone. We went in & went out. They seem like a good store. I would use them again in the future.

My experience with Lowe s was VERY confusing and ultimately involved eight people. Lowe s uses a company called a plumbing company to do their installations. So I encountered two installers from the plumbing company who did a very poor job of installing my over the range microwave. However, the microwave did cook just fine. I received a follow up call from Alana at Lowe s asking about the microwave installation. I told her that the main bolts holding up the microwave has been cross threaded into the microwave (possibly damaging it). I also told her that I thought that a person from Lowe s should look at the installation to evaluate it. A lady from the plumbing company contacted me to schedule a re-installation visit . I explained that I needed a Lowe s rep available at the same time to evaluate possible damage to the microwave. The lady from the plumbing company indicated that she had not heard about the need for a Lowe s rep and would get back to me. At some point, Alana at Lowe s put me in contact with a manager at Lowe s called Alok. Alok contacted me and indicated that he and the plumbing company would come to my house together. The lady from the plumbing company called at 3 p.m while I was away. At 4 p.m, I called the number that the plumbing company gave me and left a message. Just about 4:30, I left a second message. I called again the following morning about 9 a.m, got no answer and left no message. Sometime around 10 a.m, I called and told Alok that I had been unable to reach the plumbing company. He asked me to wait an hour while he contacted them. The lady then called from the plumbing company and scheduled a visit with the plumbing company and Alok the next day. The rep from the plumbing company and Alok from Lowe s arrived about 11 a.m without warning (that is, I only knew that they would arrive between 10 a.m and 1 p.m). The rep from the plumbing company recognized the problem immediately and took photos of the cross threaded bolts. He proceeded to remove the bolts, one at a time, adjust the holes (over inch off) in my cabinet and reinstall the bolts. He also added reinforcement strips to my cabinet as the shelf wood is very thin. When the rep from the plumbing company and Atok departed, the installation was well done. However, it should have been done correctly initially. Also, after the initial unacceptable installation, it should not have required contact with another 4 or 5 people to get it fixed. Total time from initial defective installation to correct installation was 19 days. Note that I had the use of the microwave during the 19 days. Also, I am at home almost all the time and was readily available for scheduling visits.

Door Service
$2,800
Lowe's lost the molding for around our door (it arrived at their store; they lost it somewhere inside the store). When I asked where the molding was, the salesperson who had filled out the original order insisted that I had not ordered the molding! He must have gotten me mixed up with another customer, and he would not believe me when I insisted I had ordered molding. He did not check the computer records, or check with the manufacturer. A second salesperson checked with the manufacturer and found that I had ordered the molding. The second salesperson found it inside the store and called me to say that it was found. In addition, Lowe's lost another small piece of molding that was attached to the lower part of the door. They did not notice the piece was missing, but our carpenter did notice. It took me 3 trips to Lowe's to get the molding ordered and then found within the store. They kept promising to call me to let me know whether the missing molding was in, but no one called.

The staff actually in the store (Lowe's) were pretty busy and it took a while to figure how to actually ''buy'' the freezer, but once we got help, things went fine. The delivery folks didn't realize the freezer could be ''leveled'' but otherwise they were OK. (They are supposed to send me my $75 delivery fee back, but I haven't received it yet.) I shopped around online and Lowe's had a very competitive price on new, guaranteed freezers.

Generally easier to find people to help than at another company. Place is also air-conditioned and felt more like shopping at a big Sears than a warehouse. They do carry quite a selection, and the items they carry seem to be better quality and better designed (i.e., look better). Price may not always be the lowest, esp compared to antoher company, but pretty close on many items.

Countertop and Backsplash Service

The price is reasonable, I think. At least comparable. Their customer service is not bad. However, the company they hire to fabricate and install, isn't good at all. They are definitely not on time, as they were delayed by 3 days on the install. Also, they claimed they didn't have the 3 cm countertop and called to change to a 2 cm countertop. Not exactly what we ordered. They also didn't drill the 3 holes that we asked for and only did 2. I am definitely not satisfied with the work done on my countertop and would never want to go through Lowe's again. I think Lowe's will want to rectify the problems.
