"Carlos and Benny from A & E Cleaners did a great job on my windows. I recently had my house painted and there was a little overspray on a couple of windows, which they cleaned and made them sparkle! The windows on the rest of my two story house, all 22 of them, were very dirty, had calcium deposits, and cob webs. They systematically went through, removed the screens, cleaned the outside first and then came inside and finished cleaning inside the windows. It is amazing how clean they got them, they look like new! They went through each window track and cleaned all around each window frame and removed dead insects and accumulated dirt. After the windows were cleaned, they washed both sides of each screen and reinstalled them. These guys work very fast and both were very experienced. I recommend A & E Cleaners to anyone who needs their windows cleaned. They do outstanding work and are very fair!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Yes, including the frame instead of just referring to the glass opening for window dimensions is the standard. However, some manufacturers may refer to the rough opening instead of the framed opening when listing sizes. Always confirm which measurement a manufacturer is using before ordering windows.

Energy-efficient windows cost more than other window types, but they can help you save on your monthly energy bills, get you some breaks on your taxes, and even increase the value of your home. According to Michael S. Regan, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, when people invest in green upgrades like energy-efficient windows, they save energy, money, and more.

Yes, storm windows should be tempered. According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, tempered glass is stronger and can withstand temperatures higher than laminated glass. Tempered glass is important for storm windows because it protects against outside elements and household accidents by not producing sharp, jagged pieces when it breaks or shatters.

Most manufacturers have their name imprinted somewhere on the window, such as the spacer bar, hardware, or frame. Other manufacturers will include an identification number printed on the glass itself. If you’re unable to find either of these, then your window was manufactured locally (oftentimes called a “shop window”).

With a manufacturer name (or even better, the identification number) you can attempt to research the information to find out when the product was made. Keep in mind this won’t tell you when the window was installed on your home, but can get you close.

Bay windows are supported by braces and industrial strength cables, often at the top of the window but sometimes at the bottom. The bay window may need buttress supports if installed on the second floor. Wood screws on the interior also hold the bay window in place. Bay windows are heavy and need proper support to prevent sagging and wall damage. You need to ensure that the support system can hold the weight of the window and the roof cab over the window.
