Everything went well except having to wait for the tech to arrive from his previous appointment in Fontana. At least he called to say that he was on his way but in traffic. That's why I prefer to get service from a company that is local. JW is located in L.A. and that's still quite a distance to Orange County. Don't let their location prevent you from getting superb service from JW Heating. I was pleasantly surprised and I do recommend them. The man that serviced my equipment is a college instructor and was very knowledgeable when he reviewed the list of recommendations.
Description of Work: The experienced tech checked the A/C condenser outside and the furnace inside. The A/C was serviced and a few recommendation were made.

They eventually got the job done but I had to go through a lot of unnecessary grief to finally get it done. The lack of making me a priority and having good follow through is what caused most of the issues. They tried to make things right but still had a lot of mess to clear up. At the end they did get it all done and city inspector eventually passed the heater. I think I just felt like i was not important enough to get the service I deserved. The quality of work was good once done so no complaints about that. Their poor logistics and communications are what made me give so so review. They had a guy come over to finish up the mess and he was to wait for the inspector to come by but instead of waiting he took off to go do something for another job. The inspector came by just 10 min after he had left and couldn't do anything because he had to tell the guy what to fix. Inspector said he had to leave and couldn't wait so we had to schedule it all over again and I had to spend more time to deal with it. Had the guy just waited it would have been easy to resolve but another job was more important to go work on so that caused me to have to lose time. I was told city inspectors are difficult to coordinate with but the city inspector was there and ready but they just didn't want to lose money having their guy wait for inspector. So I had to pay for that with my time instead. I didn't appreciate it. End of the day the owner did what he could to salvage it and make things right. Job got done and workmanship was good. I will give them that. i just think I had to go through so much unnecessary hassle.

Ruddy was our technician. He was prompt and very clean. He did a thorough inspection of our unit and diagnosed the problem. Unfortunately the piece we needed to repair the 30 year-old unit is no longer in production. JW Heating and Cooling tried extensively to locate the part, but was unsuccessful. We will likely use their service again when we have the money to fully replace our unit as it is a major expense.

They were terrific. Jeff is a true professional and was engaged throughout the process. His crew was fantastic. We often had as many as 4 guys working over the course of the week. Every one of them was friendly, hard-working, knowledgable, and a pleasure to have around. There were no interruptions to the work and they were able to finish in a timely manner. The lead (Joe) was excellent at communicating with my husband and I about timing, what rooms they'd be working on, etc. This was so helpful- we always knew which parts of our house would be worked on when. It made it very easy for us to keep the household running during the work. After final inspections, the outcome has been wonderful- we have a safe, functional HVAC system. We wholeheartedly recommend JW to anyone and everyone.
Description of Work: Jeff designed a new HVAC system for our home. Because the home has an older section and newer add-on, it was a complex and challenging situation. Jeff was very honest about our options and gave great advice. We ended up with a solution that allows us to have the air and heat we need throughout our house.

Even though it's been over a year since I had this work done - I can't say enough good things about JW and the crew that worked on this project. First of all, John came to do the estimate at a convenient time for me and stayed at the house for all the calculations so I knew right then and there what the price would be. Aside from being a really nice guy and super-friendly with my great dane (who was a bit teritorial at times) John immediately instilled me with confidence in his knowledge and skill. He had to crawl under the house and into my tiny, tiny attic space. My house had some interesting challenges but he was always cheerful and had such a good attitude. He helped me choose the right size unit for my needs and provided tons of information on the different options - he wasn't pushy about anything. I got a discount for deciding to go with them and making a payment at the time of the estimate, another discount for paying in cash, and ANOTHER discount for Angie's List. Too good a deal to pass up, for sure. John came back on the first day of installation to make sure the project was off to a good start. The installation crew was great and everything was completed on time. They left everything clean for the most part, except for some fingerprints on the wall next to where they cut access to the attic and some glass shards in the kitchen from an accidentally broken lightbulb. I wish I could say I hadn't found the glass by stepping on it. When I told them about it they were very apologetic. One of the workers seemed a bit too interested in my personal life, which didn't bother me but could definitely offend a more private client. After the work was completed John followed up and helped resolve a bothersome vibration noise involving the air filter. He called several times to make sure everything was satisfactory. Overall, I would use JW again in a heartbeat. I'm very glad I gave them my business.

The technician was ontime and very professional. He wore booties in the house to prevent tracking mud around. Throughout the process I was politely informed 2-3 times about how JW could help me upgrade my AC units to newer models. Mine are both 10 years old, but were previously mistreated. The work preformed was fine. My only complaint was that I am not sure what benefit I received for the coupon I purchased from angie's list. There were multiple levels of coupons, and it wasn't clear to me that I received any additional benefit for purchasing the more expensive coupon.

I made an appointment to have someone come out to look at my heat pump as I was only getting hot air. Visit charge was a little high vs. others at $125, but it needed to be done. Service tech arrived on time and once gaining roof access, was able to quickly diagnose that my capacitor needed replacement. He offered me the "silver package" which was the "best deal" for me at $556, which would include the $125. It also included a one-year warranty, and checking everything else to make sure it was ok. Still seems a bit steep to me for a max 90 minute visit.

I interviewed four contractors for my job. JW was not the least expensive, but George seemed to be the most thorough, genuine, and trustworthy of all four. Prior to and during the installation process, George was very responsive. Ramon, the main person in charge of the actual installation, was professional and thorough. They did a great job and cleaned up after the job was complete. The job went a half day longer than expected, but it was not a result of lack of hard work or mistakes. It was the result of their being thorough and doing a high quality job. A few minor things occurred during the installation. The thermostat was not properly secured to the wall. I'm not sure if this was their issue or if it had to do with the quality of my drywall (they did use drywall screws), but regardless they did come out and fix it. Also they cut a new opening for a larger return than what was there. There is a fairly decent-sized scratch on the wall next to the new cut from when they did the work. Finally, I had a venting duct from a bathroom exhaust vent next to some of the ducting that was knocked off/separated. In all fairness I have not addressed these items with JW. I'm confident that they would take care of them if I did. I am turning my condo into a rental unit and need to have some patch/handyman work done anyway, so I will contact JW if these two things can't easily be taken care of during that process. The biggest issues I had with JW are relative to the securing of the permits. The permit application has the name of the prior property owner on it. Although this was an error by the city, JW's people in charge of obtaining the permit should have verified the information at the time. The second issue is relative to the final inspection. I would need to be here as JW won't have someone here during the inspection. They sent me all the paperwork from the tests to show the inspector. What I was unaware of was that the inspector would need to go on the roof to look at the condensing unit. Living in a condo, I don't have a ladder. The inspector came today, was unable to complete the inspection, and now needs to come back. I advised JW of the issue after the inspector left. They advised they could schedule another inspection for another day and have offered to drop off a ladder but said they couldn't have someone onsite all day to wait for the inspector. I understand that, but I also don't have the time to go to the city to rectify an error on the permit that should not have gone unnoticed by JW or to wait around another day for a second inspection that really could have been avoided had JW properly prepared me for the first. I'm probably just a little ticked off at the moment because of these permit issues. All in all the work that was done was of very good quality, the person who came out to do the required testing said everything was top notch as has been his consistent experience with JW, so I would likely recommend them and use them again. In the future I'll just be more on top of what I need to be aware of in terms of the permits and also suggest to JW that they make some minor process improvements on these issues. Those improvements would make the customer experience perfect. UPDATE: I wrote a previous review on September 4 where I indicated the only issue I had with JW was lack of support during the inspection process. First of all, come to find out there was a problem with the inspector. The same inspector came out again today and realized he had made an error. I want to say that JW responded to me very quickly. They came out and "fixed" the problem that the inspector had indicated that wasn't really a problem, fixed another minor issue that I wasn't sure I was going to need them to fix, and offered to be out for the next inspection. When I wrote the prior review, I was under a great deal of stress with several projects going on at once. I hadn't given JW a chance. I still gave them an A rating as overall I thought the service was good, but I did want to take the opportunity and write a follow up to my last review. For the few minor issues that came up, including the issue with the inspection (which it turned out JW did everything correctly to begin with), JW has been EXTREMELY responsive and prompt in their service. I would use these guys again in a heartbeat.

They gave me what I considered an over-inflated price for a new AC system. I had another AC company come out and give me an estimate that was around 40 percent below JW Heatings price. While I am certain they are good at their job I do not appreciate it when companies try to overcharge. I cannot recommend them because of this

Ted was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to provide us with all the information we needed to select a vendor for this work. Although we went with another contractor, we still would ask Ted to provide us with a proposal were we ever in need of similar work. And we strongly recommend Ted and his company.

JW Heating and AC was a pleasure to work with from the first phone call to the very last step of installation. When I bought my home three years ago, I was aware that the 25-year-old AC system was long overdue for a replacement. I contacted the top-rated heating/AC companies on Angie's List and conducted a proper competitive bidding process so that I could compare the proposals and make a good choice. Every one of the companies that I contacted was really great to work with, but JW was by far the best. 1. The Estimate Ted from JW came to my house to write the estimate. We walked around the house together, and went up on the roof. Then Ted crawled into the attic and crawlspaces and in the basement. He was incredibly thorough. He took his time and photographed everything. Ted was previously an installer, and so he was making careful observations about how best to install the system. None of the other companies went to this level of effort to write an accurate bid. As a result, Ted spotted several things about my home that required special attention. No surprise then that his estimate was very accurate. We spent time discussing how he proposed to install the system and why he was making certain recommendations. He answered every question until I felt satisfied that I understood his bid thoroughly. Then he went home and spent the weekend doing math calculations to estimate how much tonnage I actually needed to purchase. He then sent me the full report and went through it in detail on the phone. This was way more attention than I got from any other vendor. I got the impression that JW would do a great job from this estimate process, and I felt fully informed about his quote. When I compared JW's bid to other vendors, I noticed two things: the other vendors had all proposed a lot less tonnage in the AC unit... for the same price as JW. This is an important difference. The tonnage determines how fast your system will cool and how hard the unit must work to get the room cool. The more tonnage, the better. By far the best deal offered was the estimate from JW: they offered the most powerful systems for the same price that other vendors offered for much smaller systems that would burn out much faster. So JW won the bid, hands down. They installed top of the line Trane AC systems and heaters for upstairs and downstairs. 2. The Installation Process Ted was present when the crew came to do the installation. He took the foreman around the property with me, and he explained everything that he had included in his estimate. There were several things that made the installation in my house challenging: Ted had identified all of them in advance, so that the crew arrived prepared to deal with the hard challenges with the right equipment for the job. The foreman of the crew was great: he was smart and well spoken and quiet and serious. He ran the crew hard. They worked quietly and without interruption until lunch time, then promptly resumed their work. They did not interrupt me with lots of questions while they were doing their job. Every evening they carefully cleaned up everything, put away their ladders and equipment and covered up all of their supplies. Ted had done a good job during the estimate of figuring out where to install various parts of the system. For instance, he figured out how to put the heater unit inside the attic crawl space instead of outside on the roof. The installers put a special doorway in my garage ceiling to access this heater. Similarly, Ted had identified that they would need to install much bigger ducts than the old system had. This would ensure that we got maximum airflow, which means much faster cooldown or heating when needed. They managed to put these new bigger ducts in the same space as the old crummy ducts. The only difference is a slightly bigger duct cover. The crew was courteous and polite and very professional. They brought doggie treats for my dog. Ted gave us a nice bottle of wine. At the end, Ted stopped by again to make sure that they had installed everything just they way he quoted it. 3. Extra touches During installation, the crew discovered that there was some severe water damage where there had been an old leak in the roof. This presented a hazard. They stopped the job for one day while they brought in a roofer to repair the problem. While the roofer was working, he offered to fix the other parts of the roof (not near the AC unit) for a very small additional fee, so that I could solve the whole problem while they had removed the shingles. It was a bargain, so I agreed. And then, just because they were really nice conscientious professionals, they went ahead and replaced the old roof flashing and fixed some of the eaves. The result is that my roof is in much better shape than it had been previously and the old leak and rotted wood was replaced and repaired entirely. If not for JW, I probably would have been unaware of that leak until I had a huge problem to contend with. Likewise, in the basement they discovered a big hole where rodents could sneak in. They patched and repaired that hole, even though it had nothing to do with their job. They also provided a Wi-Fi enabled Honeywell themostat upstairs and downstairs. This is a nice extra. It means that I can turn on my AC via my smartphone when I am away from home, so that the house is cool when I arrive. Likewise, I can use my smartphone to control the temperature from any place in the house. 4. The Followup Ted continued to stay in touch and make sure that everything worked just they way they promised. He came by to show us how to use the fancy new themostat. He also replaced an intake grate cover that was defective. Right now I am enjoying a very pleasant 72 degrees in my home while it is a blistering 95 degrees outside. The AC system is nearly silent, and the extra wide vents and ducts mean that we get a very powerful air flow so the house can cool down quickly. To summarize: JW provided the best value package by far of all the vendors that I contacted. JW matched my budget and delivered a far more powerful system than any other vendor had offered. The estimate was incredibly thorough and very clearly explained. The installation process was quiet, efficient and professional, with superb on site supervision the entire time. The installation crew went more than the extra mile to ensure that I was happy with their work. The installation crew also patched and fixed things that were not in the quote. Above and beyond the call of duty. The followup was courteous and professional and prompt. I would recommend JW to any person on Angie's LIst who needs AC and heating. They are truly excellent.

We contacted JW over a year ago to get a quote on replacing our heating & AC units, but at the time we were not prepared to spend $10K+ to do it properly. George was willing and accepting of us not being ready to pull the trigger at that time. We told him we definitely wanted to get it done in the future & he checked in with us periodically. Then, right in the middle of a June heat-wave, our AC unit died completely. We called and told him "It's time...." George came by again and walked us through the plan of attack. He had all his notes from the first visit, so it was very easy to walk thru the scope of the work again. We decided, through George's experience & advice, to replace not only our units, but also all the old (and very poorly placed) duct-work and return. Scope of work: Replace AC unit that was in backyard, and place new unit on roof out of sight from street & backyard. Replace furnace in attic & hang from roof joists. Remove all old duct-work and replace with new, smartly placed duct-work. Close up old return that was in our master, and place a new return in hallway. Replace old vents with new more air-efficient ones. Nesbitt, Nacho, Renee & Joe were the team members. Joe started the project as leader & answered all of our MILLION questions with a smile. He left after two days since his wife was having a baby. Nesbitt then took over as leader for the remainder of the job. Hiccups: Our hallway light was the only casualty during the work, but JW allowed us to go buy a replacement, which they took off our final invoice. Renee came by and installed our new light as well. Top notch service. One other small, but big PLUS in the customer service side of things, was that we had an old wood cabinet/counter unit on our back deck we didn't want anymore. Since Renee was coming to haul away all the old duct-work & units, we asked if he could take this off our hands too. He ending up breaking into pieces & hauling it away for us. Very much not part of the job, but he did it without hesitation. We cannot express how great JW was with the entire process and George saw it through from start to finish.

The guy was very professional. We have a very slow leak in our AC system and he topped it off with Puron. He informed us because of the location of the AC unit and it being in cramped quarters that a leak check would be difficult to accomplish thoroughly. Since they were here, our Puron has leaked out again and I just called them for a second visit this coming Wednesday.

From the very beginning when Ted of J&W showed up at my doorstep, I felt comfortable with J&W. Ted was very knowledgeable, professional, friendly and courteous and most of all, he was very patient answering a multitude of questions. I had contacted two other companies and although I had received a better price from one of them, I felt more comfortable using J&W and I have not regretted my decision. I explained to Ted that, do to my work I could only take limited time off and he made sure that enough workers were on site to complete the job within the time I had available. The workers were on time (arriving early at the site every day), professional, courteous and friendly. They worked with diligence and always wore a smile. They were eager to explain and show me what they were doing. They kept the mess to a minimum, cleaning up the area at the end of each day. The job was finished approximately half day earlier which was great. As I live in the San Fernando Valley, the state inspector requested the duct testing which showed no issues and the overall job was approved with no delays. Ted worked with me to resolve some issues with the city inspectors completely unrelated to the AC unit and I was very thankful for that. I most definitely recommend this company to everyone.

Technician came on time, came inside to look over our central air system and the outside air conditioning unit. After pressurizing the unit with nitrogen gas, he determined that the outside valve had a leak and would need to be fixed. The tech also mentioned that our air conditioner would probably need to be replaced. He called back the next day with quotes on replacing the valve, replacing the air conditioning unit, and then replacing the unit that uses the new gas which would entail changing out the coils above our central air unit. What was unfortunate is that the technician COMPLETELY missed the fact that some shabby work was done in the past (wrapping tape around the copper pipe to prevent a leak). The pipe directing freon into our central air coils had this thick black tape around it, and was SATURATED with a sticky substance. That was where the actual serious leak was. The tech just glossed over the central air system and asked if we replaced the air filter recently. Another unfortunate ordeal was receiving a quote to get a new air conditioning unit and cooling coil, when our central air system was noted to be INCOMPATIBLE for such a modification. A note to the company, please have your service techs be a little more thorough. Seems like the recommendation given to us was to alleviate a symptom and not solve the real problem at hand. In the future I WILL NOT be choosing this company for anything HVAC related.
Description of Work: Diagnosed that our air conditioner had run out of freon due to a leak in the valve outside. Unfortunately the technician didn't even bother to look at the piping where the true leak was!

After researching ratings on Angie's List, I bought the $69 special to have JW diagnose the air flow and temperature fluctuation problems we were having with our 2 year old roof A/C system. First Marc, one of their maintenance experts, came. After a brief look, he ascertained that the scope of the problem necessitated the owner, Jeff, to come out and do a thorough analysis. We appreciated that he did not waste his or our time; it was clear this company is a 'team.' I was not charged extra for Jeff's visit; it was considered part of the diagnostic special I had bought, which was very good. When Jeff came, he spent over an hour with us, taking measurements and asking questions about the house that would help him to accurately analyze our choices. This man is so knowledgeable, and also both clear and personable in his communication. We discussed several options of varying costs, then tried the simplest possibility first. Luckily, this seems to have worked, as the other solutions totaled about $3500.00. Member comments: We are very pleased with the quality of the work and with the punctuality, knowledge, and professionalism of both Marc and Jeff. We also value that they related with us in a both professional and personable manner. The only difficulty we had was in communication with Jeff during a time when he was juggling vacation and an extra busy schedule. We got put on hold for a few weeks due to that.
Description of Work: 1) Diagnostic check for existing problems from previous A/C company. ($69) 2) I bought a maintenance contract ($178) and Marc came out for a maintenance checkup. At that time he also revised the airflow settings of the unit itself and of the individual ducts, which was the problem identified in the diagnostic check. ($125).

After viewing Mario's portfolio, I was impressed but had no idea how nice the floors would turn out. They showed up on time, and had the job finished when they promised. I received an incredible amount of compliments on the floors - they are stunning and delivered far more than expected. I would highly recommend and without question would use again.

The installers came on time and worked for thirteen hours to complete the installation. Since this was a relatively new model of Lennox they had some difficulties with it, but they finished the job at 8 p.m. I had some misgivings about the installation, and there were some small problems but they were corrected with the complete cooperation of the business owner.
Description of Work: Replace old air conditioning system (including furnace and coil) with a new one.

Working with JW Heating and Air was a great experience. Ted was our sales rep and main point of contact - he was timely, extremely courteous, and went above and beyond to get us the system that we needed within our budget. We got quotes from several other Angie's List firms and ultimately went with JW Heating and Air because they spent a lot of time with us working on size and configuration of our system.
Description of Work: Installed central heating and air conditioning with wireless thermostat on our 1000 SF home; removed original gas wall heater and repaired the wall; also installed attic light, attic fan, and bathroom fan.
