JW Plumbing, Heating & Air

I received a number of bids for this large job at our recently purchased home all from companies which were highly rated on Angie's list. JW Heating and Air was not the cheapest bid we received, but their estimate included details of what they how they would do the installation which definitely put them ahead of the others. Since I felt this was one of the things in life it's not necessarily best to use the lowest bid on I decided to engage JW Heating and Air to do the job as I had the highest confidence in them. From start to finish JW Heating and Air did a superb job and I felt I definitely got my money?s worth. The quality of work was outstanding and the team respected our home and did a fantastic job on cleaning up at the end of each day. The owner Jeff has a genuine interest in making sure you?re happy with the job and I appreciated the direct contact when the work was done to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. When making a large purchase like this you can rest easy that you will be glad you chose JW Heating and Air like we are. I would definitely use them again, and I don?t hesitate to recommend them.

It went pretty well. The only thing that was not perfect was that it took longer than I would have like from the time of the first visit and estimate, to the actual visit when he came to repair. I understand it was partly do to the fact that it was the Thanksgiving holiday. I was told that they went to get the part and the place was closed, which caused delays. Also they told us that our workers Son was sick in the hospital, which I think added at least one extra day. It as only four days between the visits.... but I guess since it was particularly cold during this time, it seemed longer.

It went great. Their rating here is well deserved. They scheduled the service call same day and back to back for the same tech as the homes were close to each other and I didn't want to miss more work than necessary. The technician came out to the first location and cleaned a component on the inside and the heater started to work. At the 2nd location, an actual component needed to be replaced. I am having them come out and do more work - I liked them so much!

JW is really an amazing company!! They are very professional, prompt, perform excellent work, and are very responsive to addressing customer concerns. All these "A" reviews are here for a reason and I would highly recommend them. Jeff and staff are wonderful to work with - I wish there were more companies like JW!!

Of the 3 contractors I considered, JW was the only one who identifed all of these ways to improve the performance of our 25 year old system; (1) hang furnace horizontally in attic to reduce noise transmitted into living space, (2) install dampers in ducting to help balance flow, (3) replace most wall and ceiling vents with ones that have moveable louvers, and (4) enlarge air return opening to reduce air flow noise. They were also the only one to offer a 5 yr warranty on labor to fix any problems. We live in a temperate area which doesn't have many heating days, and JW made a very reasonable recommendation for an 80% efficiency, dual stage furnace. No pressure to buy one of the ultra high efficiency models that would have presumably earned more profit for them. The work was scheduled for one week after I signed the contract. The removal of the old furnace and all of the work described was completed in one day. Removal of the old furnace required removal of the drop down access stairs to the attic, and this was obviously familiar territory to the installers. They laid drop cloths everywhere and cleaned up thoroughly. The installation has a very professional look - the city inspector even commented on it. We are very happy with the performance of the new system - it is almost completely silent, which is a good thing because the furnace is located almost directly over the master bedroom and the old unit would awaken us during the night when it ran. The temperature uniformity throughout the house is much better. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome, and even though they did the most work their price was the middle of the three estimates we got.

I was extremely unhappy with the service I got from this company and would not use them again or recommend them to anyone.

I've hired JW Heating several times in the past because their performance is usually flawless. Jeff, the owner of the company, came to my house and defined a solution that fit both my needs and my budget. He inspected the situation very thoroughly, and devised a bid that seemed reasonable and to the point. With the $1500 federal tax rebate for a high efficiency unit, the $100 DWP rebate, the $300-off Angie's List coupon JW offers and a few other things Jeff threw in, I felt that the price became very reasonable, especially since JW Heating is able to offer a 6-month no-interest, no-payment plan. I didn't shop around much since I've always been pleased with the service and prices that JW provided. They were able to schedule my job within 10 days. The techs were perfectly efficient, courteous and professional. And, my new heating & AC system works like a charm. My only slight complaint is that it took the initial JW tech a bit of back and forth to properly diagnose the problem and come to the conclusion that the entire unit needed to be replaced. The tech who came on the initial service call, when I first reported the problem, thought the issue had to do with a small individual part, and essentially issued the wrong diagnostic. It took another visit to properly diagnose the problem.

We were pretty happy with our experience with them. The owner came out on time and he was very courteous and well experienced. He was dressed nicely and sat with us to do an estimate. There was no charge for the estimate. He went over everything. We were really impressed and also recommended him to our friend. We would have definitely gone with him if we had just moved into this house and would be here for a while.

They were fantastic. They did everything right and the work was finished quickly. They completed it in three days despite the rain and other problems. I had to arrange everything again after the work was finished and they planned all this on the first day itself. They did some major changes in the plan after 2 hours as they checked many things. The heating system had a problem, which related to the gas flow of the house, and they responded to that problem very quickly. They spent four hours off the clock and fixed it. They followed up very well. The price was a bit steep but the quality of service was excellent.

They were professional, responsive and punctual. They did what they said they would do. The quality of their work was good and I was satisfied with their service.

The workman Kurt, Christian and Ramon did excellent work. The crew was on time and efficient. The clean up was excellent. George Magnani at JW kept me updated and informed about the work throughout the planning stages and inspected the job done once completed.

We had braced ourselves for bad news after two different guys from the gas company couldn't start our downstairs furnace pilot light and wouldn't even go upstairs to start up our upstairs furnace. But today was a good day. With a little expertise and elbow grease from the guy from JW, both are now working. He also gave some good advice on whether to invest in additional service in the future vs. when it would be time to replace the system.

Matched a less expensive quote from another company. Then came in and did a good job. Came back when worker mistakenly put in wrong part, which caused a gas leak. But came back and fixed it right away. Good experience.

Overall, was happy with installation, except for installing powerline accross the roof, but they listened and followed my request to install through the attic.

Jeff (the owner) and his crew were all extremely professional. We were impressed from start to finish. Initially, Jeff took the time to sit down with us and discuss in detail what we wanted to do and what issues were important to us. He explained all our options, taking into consideration our budget, so that we felt we were making an educated decision. The work was scheduled quickly and was completed in one day. The installation crew did a great job and Jeff came out the next day to inspect the work. There were a couple minor issues that we would likely not even have mentioned if he hadn't come out, but Jeff has someone come over that same day to fix them. We are very happy with the work done and would definitely hire them again!

Perfect. They were here on time, very communicative and clear. They explained everything about our systems, what they need, care etc. Ive never known so much about AC units! They made it easy to understand and work through. It was obvious they had many many years of experience. Really a wonderful team.

Jeff arrived on time for our appointment, provided great documentation of past work, and after thoroughly checking out our situation, suggested and ultimately installed, an affordable system that serves our needs.

Yuri and Pete, his assistant, arrived about 15-30 minutes late, but that was fine as we were not inconvenienced by this at all. They made quick friendly conversation so our daughter, who is 2 years old, could be comfortable with them and then got to work in different areas so that everything could be done as quickly as possible. Pete investigated the cut hose that we had been warned about by our house inspector and found nothing that was part of the system was cut, so the air conditioning was fine. Yuri got the furnace working, replaced the filter and showed us all the safety valves that were in place so that if anything went wrong with the unit, it would not be dangerous. He showed us how to operate the thermostat, which, as stupid as it sounds, we had both never had any experience with (we're from NYC where you rent an apartment and it is heated by radiators over which you have no control). They were easy to deal with, fast working, very knowledgeable and thorough. Within an hour, we knew that our heat and a/c were working great and we knew how to turn them on.

I researched this project fairly extensively, including getting several bids, in large part to make sure that the AC/heat package unit qualified for the $1,500 federal energy efficiency tax rebate. The company's salesman, George Magnani, was responsive and professional when he came over to discuss the project. After some foot dragging, I decided to go with JW (our AC broke one night during a heat wave and my pregnant wife made sure I got on the ball). George said he would reschedule another project to accommodate us and we began work soon after signing a contract. The work lasted several days, beginning early each morning (we actually had to ask them to come later than their preferred 7a start time). Everything was done on time and so far the results appear to be great (especially the heat, which really kicks). One minor annoyance was that the pile of debris from the old ducting was not removed off our property as it accumulated, so it sat there several days, and because there were sharp metal edges and old fiberglass, that made the backyard off limits to our young daughter for a spell. The sharp edges also sliced our hose, but George arrived with a replacement when we paid the final balance, no problem. He also showed me how to get on the LADWP rebate page for another $100 back for getting an energy-efficient package system. It took a few calls to the office to get the paperwork I needed for that rebate/the federal tax rebate, but the paperwork did arrive eventually. Another plus was the follow up -- the work crew laid the pipe that carried the condensation discharge to fall off a side of the house that was different than the old system (we were replacing the gutters at the time, so it was not an unreasonable decision on the crew's part). When I mentioned this, George helped arrange a subsequent visit to reroute the piping so it goes to where I want it (into a new gutter). Overall, I was happy with the experience, and given that I wanted a unit that qualified for the federal rebate, their price was the most competitive.

George spent a good hour explaining the options, crosschecking details online, generating a comprehensive accurate estimate, and explaining options on rebates for energy efficiency. Very helpful. Work was performed punctually and in a friendly, professional manner. Workmen cleaned up after themselves. The heater works extremely well. Price was prior to state tax rebate.

I was originally hopeful that an air conditioning system could be added to our existing heating unit. After a presentation by a rep from the company(George), it was obvious that a new heating system along with the airneeded to be installed. The workmen, under the able leadership of Mark? completed the work in three days. They were there promptly at 7am on each day; the workmanship was excellent and very professional. The workman were polite and made sure there was minimal disruption to the house as the system was installed. After removing the old heating system and placing the remnants on our front lawn, they insisted, at the end of the day, that they would remove the debris to the side of the house so it would not be seen until it was picked up later.The owner was very personable and checked the job after the installation. The units installed are very quiet and were rated at the top of the list by Consumer Reports. We were very pleased with the installation and aare enjoying the air and heat.

I called JW to look at our AC ducts because the air in our bedroom was not as strong as it used to be. The repairman arrived on time and asked where the HVAC unit was. I showed him and he looked at the unit and pulled off the filter to show me that it was dirty and had some broken parts. He asked if I wanted to replace it with a newer more efficient filter. I said yes and he proceeded to replace the filter and to explain to me the value of buying a service contract for the HVAC unit which included filter changes. I was still waiting for him to deal with the duct problem I had called about. He asked how to get under the house to look at the ducts. He went under the house to inspect the ducts and ascertained that the duct serving our bedroom was disconnected and needed to be re-attached with a metal collar per his specs. He said he could not reattached the duct that day because he did not have the part. He would tell the office of the work needed but he could not guarantee when that work would be scheduled. When I pressed him for a time frame and he said, "Next week, maybe, but I can't make any promises." I found this response to be poor and was also disappointed that he did not, at least, reconnect the duct with tape as a temporary measure. He claimed that he needed someone who was smaller to climb into the space and do the work. After his visit, I waited about 3 days for a call or some type of contact from the company. Receiving none, I pursued help from someone else. Two full weeks later, someone from the company called to see about scheduling the work. I told them we already had the duct replaced by someone else. This company seems to do a good job when they are doing a major AC/Heating installation. But when it comes to minor repairs like mine, they are not good. They seem more interested in selling service contracts.

Jeff and his crew did a good job installing new central heating in our home. The guys worked hard and did everything to my satisfaction. We will continue to use them to maintain our new furnace and we would recommend them to others. Thanks.
