Locally owned and operated. Been in business since 1976. We are involved from a house or business under construction to buildings that are all ready built. Most systems can be installed in existing homes and businesses with minimum or no damage.

"I received an email advertising a 'free' system upgrade. I called and spoke to Alahandra (please excuse the spelling) and made an appointment for the 24th, between 9 and 12AM. The morning of the 24th, the phone rang, but I did not get to it in time. I called the office to make sure, if it was them calling, that I wouldn't miss my appointment. Alahandra told me she would check and get back to me. When she called back, she asked me if I was calling about the 'free' upgrade. I said yes and then was told that I wasn't on the schedule. She said she could put me on the schedule for the following week. When I asked what day, she requested I tell her when I was available. I said Monday. She said that they are closed on Mondays. I said Tuesday. She said okay and that it would be $40/month. I now pay $300 a year for monitoring. I told her to never mind about the 'free' upgrade. I re-read the initial email and did not find it to say that my monthly monitoring charges would increase. How is this a free upgrade? I'm thinking of canceling everything with California Built In."

Central Vacuum Cleaners questions, answered by experts

It can be difficult to know right away if your central vacuum is clogged since it operates quietly compared to regular vacuums. However, there are a couple of signs you can look for. If you feel like it’s losing suction or isn’t cleaning effectively, then there’s likely a clog somewhere.

Make sure you turn the vacuum on and feel the end of the hose handle. If you don’t feel any suction, then you’re dealing with a clog in the hose. You can see if the clog is further down in the system by attaching the hose to each outlet until you find the one with the least amount of suction.

The best way to clean central vacuum pipes is to use a maintenance sheet to dislodge clogs and wipe the inside of the pipes clean. Alternatively, a professional can clean your central vacuum pipes for you.

Maintaining your central vacuum cleaner is crucial to extending its lifespan. Ensuring the filter is cleaned or changed often is vital to ensuring clogs don’t impact your motor. In addition, inspecting motor brushes regularly and lubricating the engine when needed helps keep it in tip-top shape. Finally, cleaning the central vacuum hose of dirt and debris helps keep clogs at bay, especially if you’ve vacuumed something wet or sticky.

Routine service inspections on your central vacuum cleaner help keep your vacuum running at its best while helping to avoid costly repairs. It’s best to schedule service inspections every two to three years for a professional central vacuum service to examine your unit. If you have several pets in your home or have a lot of dirt and dust, it’s best to schedule your inspections every one to two years.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.
