"We had an excellent experience working with A&A Lawn Care / Andres Madriz and couldn’t be happier with the final results. From the beginning, Andres was patient, honest, and very communicative. He took the time to explain the process, walk us through options, and answer all of our questions, even with multiple follow-ups. We never felt rushed and always felt respected. After speaking with several contractors who declined our project, we felt very lucky to find Andres. He was accommodating, flexible, and willing to work with us. The project included concrete work for both our front and backyard, including stamped concrete, broom-finished concrete, and decorative rock. The work was done with great attention to detail, kept clean throughout, and completed as discussed. Andres also explained the 1-year workmanship warranty, which gave us peace of mind. We’re extremely happy with the results and highly recommend A&A Lawn Care."

"We needed help replacing broken sprinklers and checking the sprinkler system. Marcus from Sunset Landscaping came out to give us a quote. He was prompt with responding to inquiries and was able to give us a fair assessment. He fixed all the broken sprinklers with efficiency and was very courteous. He also helped with information regarding other projects I have around the house. Would highly recommend him for garden services."

"We posted early Nov 2005 for sprinkler repair job and Mike Robbins responded and we met for him to look at our issues. He said we needed new pump/cellinoids(?) and new, different brand controller. He inquired about other projects we might want done, and we mentioned some landscaping in front and back yard areas. We decided on "black" river rock type ground cover for our tree/flower bush areas to replace prior black wood chips that had faded and mostly blown away, and some pea gravel for our dog-run side of house & a smaller gated other side of house. He also removed a rose bush in back left corner back yard and roots from old orange tree that had blown over and prep'd the areas for drip lines (only the ones for fruit tree areas have worked, but not ones our bushes). When delivered, the rock for backyard was not "black", but gray, which Mike said is what "Mexican black" rock looks like(?) I then asked to make sure we got the nicer shiny, black "polished" rock for our front flower beds. He also mentioned he could get us a nice Japanese Maple tree for back left corner of backyard, and later added that he could build a nice, attractive wooden box to hold that tree. He mentioned he could build a 2 sided, open roof wooden structure with front gate around our outdoor Generac generator in back right of backyard. We had an uninstalled water fountain feature in backyard which he looked at and said he could get an underwater pump needed and make a cement slab base for it next to Japanese Maple tree, and set up and activate the water fountain & pump when he came back in the Spring to put a sealant on the Japanese Maple tree wooden box and wooden structure around the Generac generator, as well as "check on" 3 Hibiscus flowers he got for us in our front yard (he also got a small "twisty" tree-like plant for small area next to front left of garage door), and replace them if the Winter killed them. He would also at that time bring 2 Geranium flowers (one for each side of front doorway to house). The last thing done in the Fall was the prep & installation of the artificial grass (most expensive part) in backyard, which he said was guaranteed for 2 years (but never gave us any paperwork for that). He never said there would have to be a "seam" for a portion of it, but when installed, there was one, but I didn't make an issue of it (but wasn't happy). He also had verbally assured me that there shouldn't be any issue of our puppy (9 mo old BerneDoodle) tearing up the artificial grass; despite him having seen how badly she had dug up most of our back lawn. During the entire process from start to finish, as new/additional items were added to the project list Mike would let me know approximately how much it was adding up to. On 12-6-2025 when he asked for payment after the artificial grass was finished (and still had the above=referenced flowers to be provided, checked on, water feature to be done, and sealant applied to wooden structures in backyard, which he said was all included in his "final" verbal quote to me, I once again asked him to email me and invoice detailing everything done & to be done yet, and showing final price (which he promised to do), and I paid him our personal check for $33,375.00. I trusted him to follow through on this and remainder to be done in Spring because had had never asked for partial payments while work was being done (I asked him one time why he didn't need a partial payment, and he said that if someone didn't ever pay him, "they'd just wake up one morning and find their car was gone"; at the time I laughed, but I'm not now!). Finally between June, July & Aug. 2026, after not hearing anything from him, texted him, emailed and called him seeking an answer to the remaining paid but unfinished work; but I've never received ANY response at all. By the way, the artificial lawn was NOT dog-proof at all, and fibers were easily dug out by our dog."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

The time you should wait before walking on new grass depends on whether you used seed or sod. If you laid new grass seed, it's best to wait about eight weeks before stepping on it, as new grass is fragile. For sod, it typically establishes itself in the ground in about two weeks. For heavy traffic, like driving a car across a new grass driveway, you might need to wait an entire season.

Avoid watering your plants once temperatures regularly reach freezing temperatures or lower. Water won’t make it down to the roots at that point—it’ll just freeze to the topsoil level.

Lawn mower blades should be sharp enough that you can feel the sharpened edge, but not sharp enough to cut you when you touch them. Over-sharpening blades to a fine, razor-edge poses a safety risk and decreases the blade's life because it causes extra wear; the thinner edge is sharper but weaker and will require more frequent sharpening.

If you're already planning to hire an electrician and you know that you'll get billed the minimum call-out charge, you might as well make the most of it by having the contractor do another small job like replacing a light switch or electrical outlet. Even if you're paying for a new coaxial outlet, which costs several hours in labor, you may be able to save a little or maximize value by getting them to do other related jobs. For example, if you're having a coaxial cable moved, it's worth checking if you also need another electrical outlet in the new location or considering where else you would benefit from a new outlet . The cost to install an electrical outlet is around $200.

Always do a poop sweep before mowing your lawn. Running your mower over dog waste can be messy, unsanitary, and smelly, and it can spread the poop to other parts of your lawn. Plus, you won’t be able to get it out of the grass (or the mower blades) easily.
