We had the wood floor in our bedroom removed and went with a polished concrete finish - It came out beautiful. We just needed to have new baseboard installed and this long process would be finished.
I signed up with Angie's List and settled on the highly rated My Handyman Crew to install new baseboard. I ended up with new baseboard, along with the requirement to repaint our recently painted bedroom and an expensive reminder that, when dealing with contract work , Caveat emptor!
My Handyman Crew showed up as agreed, looked over the job and did his measurements. When I contacted My Handyman Crew on the phone I told him that I would provide the new baseboard, but when he showed up, I asked him if he could supply the materials and gave him a piece of the old baseboard. He said he could get the baseboard and that he charged a 30% mark-up on materials - I agreed. I also asked if he could touch-up the baseboard around the rest of the house because the nail holes and corners had not been caulked.
My Handyman Crew showed up several days later along with a worker who he introduced. He said the worker would be doing the actual installation work.
After a full day, the baseboard was installed in the Bedroom - this was a Friday - and the worker said he would be back on the following Tuesday to finish. It seemed to me that the job was going slower than I would have expected - a full day of 8+ hours to install ~80 feet of baseboard? The worker left quite a mess of sawdust and old caulking around the bedroom and patio which we had to clean up.
Before the worker returned, I called My Handyman Crew to find out how much of a bill I was running up and how much more work he expected. I also let him know that I was concerned about the pace of work and the mess.
Ready .... He informed me that he charged $65 per hour- on top of the 30% mark-up on materials!
He said he would talk to the worker about the pace of work, and that he would likely charge only for the hours worked to date and finish up the work on Tuesday.
Tuesday, the worker finished in approximately 2 hours then left. I was surprised when, 5 minutes later, My Handyman Crew showed up at the door - Invoice in hand and the worker tailing along. Clearly, he was going to COLLECT his money!
He asked me to walk around, and approve the work. I was surprised, intimidated and unprepared for a final inspection and payment just 5 minutes after the work had finished. He informed me that he was going to charge for all hours worked and that the amount of billed work was justified because of a transition between the bedroom and bathroom floor where the baseboard had to be trimmed to accommodate the 3/8" higher tile floor in the bathroom.
He followed me around the house with the bill in hand as I looked over the work. I felt that if I asked for anything to be done the meter would start running and my bill would go up. As I asked questions or pointed things out, I was careful to state that I was not asking for any additional work.
We went back and forth for a short time with me pointing our that we would have been happier if he would have installed baseboard that covered the old caulk line and him pointing our that I had given him a piece of baseboard and that's what he installed.
I just wanted this over. It was useless attempting to express any dissatisfaction.
I won't be calling My Handyman Crew again.

Because of their commitment to doing a good job, we would not hesitate to recommend them.
