Self employed and I do most of the work myself. I do use sub-contractors, but I supervise all the work to be done to my specifications. I do charge a diagnosis fee because I want you to get the best diagnosis. You wouldn't ask your doctor to diagnose you over the phone without doing some blood work and a visual examination, would you? I then do the following: I take a history of the tree, and then I do a compaction test, pH, soil and moisture test, I test for sun scald, I also test to see if your trees are planted too deep, I look for signs of insects, fungus, and Slime Flux Disease, I check to see if your sprinklers are hitting the trunks of your trees, because this can cause your trunks to rot, I use a Shigometer to test the blood pressure of your tree to determine if the tree can be saved, I then sit down with my client to explain completely what the diagnosis is, which can take an hour or more. In addition, I have to have 30 hours of continuing education to keep my licenses valid.

"Dear Mrs. [Member Name Removed]: I am sorry that you were unhappy with our service. We strive to give the best service we can. I don't know if the nursery person came out to your home to do a complete diagnosis or just gave recommendations to your problem. You live in a very alkaline and rocky soil, and your 40 Itallian Cypresses and Redwoods were very old and in disrepair. I told you that they needed special treatment to restore the health, because the limbs were not able to hold up the branches. I also stated that they were not being watered properly so I suggested that you call a sprinkler repair person. I also stated that the water was running off and was not penetrating deeply to truly benefit them. I suggested that Penmax and Liqua-Jip should be applied to open up the soil and leech the excess salts. I also said that borers were present and they would need to be addressed to slow them down. When I did your treatment I told you that the temperature was not condusive to treat at that time, and they should have systemic injections to treat the borers at a later date. I know the nursery person probably told you to use a systemic through the soil, but I have used that product in the past and did not get the desired results. In conclusion, I have over 80,000 hours of research and in the field experience, and we are the only company that uses a Shigometer to test the sap flow inside your trees to give you the best diagnosis. I get paid not on how much we do or how long it takes, but for my knowledge and expertise. I am the only Certified Arborist that supervises all the work to be performed to ensure you get the best job. I am sorry that we could not satisfy you."
