$180
When he called me back he told me it was going to be a hundred dollars. Service a call fee. When that included an hour and a half of labor or troubleshooting. When he arrived he changed it to $150 and I reminded him that he gave me an estimate over the phone for a hundred dollars but he insisted he said 150 on the phone. I was desperate to get my air conditioning going so I let him in the house. I requested an electrical contractor because I needed my thermostat replaced. I also had a breaker switch that was rocky and so I took him to the breaker box first and he stabilized the circuit breaker switch in 2 minutes. Then I took him to the thermostat. He didn’t touch anything and said he did not do the thermostat that I would have to call an HVAC person. I asked him why he answered my call for a thermostat replacement if he didn’t do thermostats. He said well i told you on the phone, you may have to have a HVAC person i said but its thermostats are all electrician fixed thermostats. The box says’ I could do it myself. He said he wanted the $150 I said, but you didn’t do anything he said. Well I still get it. I made the call. So being afraid of the mechanic's lien I told him I would give him my credit card. He said I don't take credit cards, I only take cash , checks, or zelle. I said I don't have that much money in my bank account, I’m on social security. He said well i take a credit card this time only but you have to pay a 4 percent fee. Then he took my credit card and charged it on his phone and before he left he wanted to know if I had any other electric needs since he was charging me for the call. So since I just paid him 150 for nothing I remembered my doorbell was not working. Which tha’t not why I called it AC because it was over a hundred degrees. He went to his truck and got a very cheap one. I believed it was a doorbell and put it in for five minutes. Then he left. I didn’t get any sleep because I was upset about being charged that much money. And my thermostat was not replaced as requested. So my house was hot all night long then the next day I sent him a text requesting his contractor’s license number and a refund for the 50 dollars overcharged because he said it was a hundred dollars on the phone and he charged me 150 dollars. I should get a full refund because he did not replace my thermostat or even try. He did not give a written estimate as contractors are supposed to do or give me a receipt for the underserved payment he received. He did not give me a business card. His vehicle did not have business identification on it but I know he was the owner of Duke Electric because I called him Duke and he said, that’s not my name, that's my dog’s name. He named his business after his dog. He never told me his real name. I feel that he has very poor business ethics. He is a liar and stole money from me by not completing the job he was paid to do. I would not recommend his company to anyone. I texted him the next day asking for a refund and his contractor’s license number and he did not respond at all. I'm going to report him also to the California state Contractors board for reprimanding and California consumer affairs to enforce good business practice.
