Art and his crew arrived on time and assessed the task at hand. With an action plan made, they quickly and efficiently went to work. I had the crew perform some additional work that was not in the initial quote, yet was only charged a nominal fee. They completed the job well within the estimated time frame, leaving a clean site upon their departure.
After the ceiling was primed and painted I couldn't see were any previous damage had been. Fantastic job!
I would most certainly use Art's Drywall again
Leo, the foreman called as promised and set up an estimate appointment. Leo was prompt for the appt and measured and said he would get back to me with the estimate. Leo did call a couple of days later and gave me an estimate of $1100. He asked me at that time whether we wanted a smooth finish or a slight texture. He mentioned that a smooth finish would be a little pricier. We opted for the texture. An appt was made to come and do the work. The first appointment was rescheduled because of their previous job not being able to be completed on time due to weather issues, I believe.
The workers showed up at the rescheduled time and began work. They went about their job and I did my work in the house. They left a few hours later. After they left my husband and I went into the room to check out the job. The seams were well put together and covered with a thin layer of plaster, but there was minimal plastering done on the walls. It was mostly wallboard. We had not expected this result and put in a call to Art.
When Art returned the call I mentioned my concern about the bare drywall. I was given a non-stop lecture that lasted at least 5 minutes during which I was unable to get a word in at all. During this lecture he said I should have done my homework to see what I was getting, that this is the exact thing that is being done in all the upper end homes, I should have asked to see a sample of the finish I was getting, and that all it required for finishing is paint. These same points were very expanded at length in the lecture/monologue. It was also mentioned that the price was in accordance with the job and when could I pay him. We finally did agree that he would come and add more plaster to cover some of the drywall, but in no way would it be possible to completely cover it due to the type of drywall (I believe).
At the end of the call, I was left feeling ignorant and wishing I had gotten other estimates. Art had initially told me his guys would come back the 2nd day to sand the walls to be paint ready, but during the call he said that there was no sanding needed. (Yep, you really can't sand bare paper on drywall-my comment here).
So Art and his guys did come back the next day and put some more plaster on the walls. I had to leave for work and didn't see the end result until the afternoon. The walls did have more plaster but not a lot. Art called the next day to see what we thought and when we could pay him. I was assured that paint with a couple of coats of sealer before the paint would have a great result. Not really wanting to hear another lecture or to incur any other type of monologue and hopeful that paint would be our answer we passed the job and I assured him of payment. This was right before a week-end.
On Monday, Art called and asked if he could come by and pick up payment. I told him I had put it in the mail and it should reach him by the next day. It must have since I've had no further contact with Art.
My feeling here is that Art is more suited to the commercial work. These are not homes and no one is as particular about finishes since they aren't living there. His communication skills were lacking in my case. His mention of me doing homework rankled me quite a bit especially since I didn't know there was homework to be done. He is the expert in this area - why didn't he educate me (the consumer) as to the exact process before the fact? Anyway, done is done and we have an investment of 8 gallons of sealer and high quality paint to thank for walls that will work.
