American Tire Depot - Bakersfield

Having had a good experience there last year for a tire change, I went in. I just bought a used car off of craigslist and wanted to get a good checkup done. I went in there mainly for tires but seeing that they offered a multitude of services, wanted to get it all done. Being not very car savvy, I agreed to almost everything they asked me to do (that's on me). Everything seemed to go okay until they said they needed to change my spark plugs and spark plug wires. They worked past their working hours, until 8 pm, and got things done. I was very appreciative and happy. They also did a "test drive". The car was very jerky when i started and they told me its just since so many changes were made, these will go away once I drive it a little
So I get in my car, its very jerky...especially when stopped, idling at a light. I make it home. The next day, the drive to work was not pleasant at all. I drive an average of 40 miles a day. So I called them and they said I need to drive some more.
I talked to my colleagues and they said - theres something wrong with the spark plugs and oh look - they didnt change the wires! Imagine my frustration - I check my receipt and it says they did. I was livid, took the car back. The manager had a very nonchalant, almost condescending attitude. Said they they could get only half of it done. No sorry, not one apology. So they changed them all again. No consideration given. I am an easy going person, but what if this problem had occurred 2 weeks after my visit there? I highly doubt they would have taken any responsibility.
Will not go again. I accept my own lack of knowledge of cars but this is not acceptable to me.

Great. I called to find out about an appointment and was told to just come in. I asked when and was told that "right now" would be fine.
Someone helped me within minutes of when I got there. This was a Saturday afternoon.

Excellent service. Was a long wait but I had gone on a Saturday afternoon. You get free flat tire fixes, tire rotations for life if you buy a tire from them. The guy did not try to rip me off (another tire shop had asked me to replace all 4 tires). Only 2 were needed ( and I knew this myself because I had changed the other two 6 months ago). Would highly recommend.

Overall a pretty good experience. My only problem was them forgetting to order my tires and I had to wait an extra day.

Great experience, quick and professional

I had a nail in my tire. They worked our vehicle in, and they repaired the tire and did not charge me. They even put the tire back on the truck and put the spare back on underneath the truck.

They did the job. The price was fair. It was one of those newer tires that have a smaller rim and it seemed to be a good quality tire. The staff was very good.

The manager told me that they found a loose wire or connection inside the dashboard, and they fixed it. I asked how much the bill was, and he told me "No Charge". This is typical for this shop, excellent and honest customer service and repairs at little or no cost. I've had 3 sets of tires purchased and installed, oil changes, and the heater/ac fixed for free. Tire rotations and flat repair were also done at no charge, even though I had not purchased the "road hazard" warranty for the tires. I kept coming back for tires because they always quoted the lowest price and beat every other quote I had from other tire stores. I'm not a personal friend or relative, just a customer off the street, but they treat me like I'm someone special. That's really rare these days.
