"Very pleased with the work GNB did on this deck project...They tore down the old deck and built a brand new one in a very reasonable timeframe considering the oppressive Alabama summer. I will not hesitate to use them again"
"Luke was amazing. He gave us a quick quote that was reasonable. He started and worked when he said he would. He kept us updated and sent pictures afterward. The quality of his work was excellent. I was so pleased with his work. He went above and beyond by doing a couple extra things for us as we were out of state. I would and will recommend him to anyone looking for a professional quality painter!"
"Anthony is a great person to work with. He went above the call. He will be coming back to do more work for us. I will highly recommend him to do home repairs."
"We own a small business in the Dothan, Al area, but live out of town. I found Fred Klein through Angie's List and at the time there were not that many options in the area. Their company didn't have stellar reviews, but we decided to go with them. For a project that I was not able to directly oversee, it went pretty smoothly in the beginning. Fred was willing to work around our hours of operation as much a possible with a remodel of this type. Issues didn't really emerge until the end of the project. On three separate occasions, strips of vinyl fell off of the building. To his credit, Fred came out to fix the issues, but recently another siding issue came up and Fred has stopped returning calls. I have yet to personally inspect his work, but so far it's suspect. I will update this post once I am able to view the work firsthand. My biggest complaint with the company is that they took a $1200 deposit from me on 4/12/12 to install carpet "around Memorial Day." It is 6/22/12 and it has yet to be installed. Fred has not returned my emails or answered my calls. For my part, I am not always quick to respond either, but two and a half months is a bit ridiculous. About their professionalism, Fred wasn't aware that we have some personal friends that work for us. He would refer to us as "Corporate P*****" when he spoke to them and the rest of the staff. We spoke to Fred about this and he did apologize. Another unprofessional issue was that his son and the crew smoke and toss cigarette butts throughout the property as well as in the kitchen sink and the toilets. All in all, our customers like the looks of the remodel, which is great. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have chosen another company.
"Very knowledgeable of the work to do. Between him and his worker they have 50 years experience. We are set to start work on Monday. So hopefully it will go as well as the meeting."

There are approximately 5.33 board feet in a 2x4. You can use the board foot calculator in this article to easily find the answer. A 2x4 is 2 inches of thickness by 4 inches of width, so you need to find the length, with 8 feet being the most common. You’d use the calculator here to multiply 2 times 4 times 8, and then divide by 12, arriving at a total of 5.33 board feet.
The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.
Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. While this is fine for typical use, it is usually not enough to hold the weight of a hot tub filled with water and people. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.
Yes, deck footings typically require an inspection before laying down concrete. While not all local building codes require footing inspection, proper placement ensures a safe and structurally sound deck. An inspector will verify that the deck can adequately hold what you put on top of it., and that the footings have been dug to the correct dimensions.
Any wood deck provides some ventilation to the area below, as is the nature of that type of deck design. However, areas that experience excessive humidity and associated moisture benefit greatly from a dedicated ventilation system in the form of strip vents. This addition helps the various wood boards contract and expand evenly throughout the years and reduces the chances of twisting, warping, and buckling.
