"The installers were great. The salesperson made promises that he did not keep and he missed a window. When the person came to measure he also didn’t catch that I was having all my windows done except one. The windows look great. The response when I notified the co that one window was missed was very fast but added to my cost."

"We scheduled a meeting to discuss some foundation "settling" problems, which had resulted in several cracks over our doors and windows. Two days before the consultant arrived, we received a book outlining the many problems associated with foundation damage, dirt crawl spaces, and poor water-proofing. When the salesman arrived he completed a thorough inspection of the foundation and offered several suggestions which included, interior piers ($2100), exterior piers ($7300), an engineering consultant to advise us on "possible" root damage to our garage, a dry crawl space system ($1900), and a dehumidifier ($1600). We agreed to have seven (7) interior piers installed to help prevent the cracking walls and were given a $100 discount for mentioning Angie's List. We were notified when the crew would arrive and were told exactly what they would do. The crew arrived on Wednesday 4/1 to pour the footers, and completed the installation of the piers on Friday 4/3. The work was completed to our satisfaction."

Upgrade to double-glazed glass or apply energy-efficient coatings to reduce heat loss and utility costs.
In addition to window well covers or bars, you can take a few more steps to boost basement window security. Try motion-activated lighting; it scares off potential intruders by lighting up when someone gets too close. Strengthening your window glass with impact-resistant security film can also deter forced entry. A dependable home security system with window sensors and cameras offers real-time monitoring and alerts for added protection. Lastly, fostering good relationships with neighbors can establish a supportive community watch network, enhancing your home's safety.
Yes, most manufacturers and contractors offer warranties covering materials and labor. It is important to confirm the specific terms of the warranty before purchasing.
Most manufacturers have their name imprinted somewhere on the window, such as the spacer bar, hardware, or frame. Other manufacturers will include an identification number printed on the glass itself. If you’re unable to find either of these, then your window was manufactured locally (oftentimes called a “shop window”).
With a manufacturer name (or even better, the identification number) you can attempt to research the information to find out when the product was made. Keep in mind this won’t tell you when the window was installed on your home, but can get you close.
Not every home needs window capping. Whether or not you need to cap your windows depends on your climate and window frame materials. Wooden windows should have window capping if moisture is a problem. Arid climates like the Southwest may not need window capping due to low rainfall and low humidity.
