Small jobs welcome

"Clay was great. There when he said he would be, meticulous in his work, all furniture was replaced exactly as it was. Very affordable. He also fixed and sealed our front porch brick stairs. Would not hesitate to call on him again."

Small jobs welcome

"I’m extremely pleased with the painting work done on my exterior deck and bathroom walls. The job was completed with fairness, honesty, and true professionalism from start to finish. The pricing was transparent, the communication was clear, and there were no surprises along the way. The exterior deck looks refreshed and beautifully finished, and the bathroom walls were painted with great attention to detail. Everything was done neatly and efficiently, and the final result exceeded my expectations. It’s hard to find contractors who are both skilled and trustworthy, but this experience checked both boxes. I would absolutely recommend their services to anyone looking for quality work done right."

"Creative Scape did a tremendous job. The gentleman who installed my brick pavers for a platform in the front and back of my deck did an excellent job. They also installed a drainage system from my front downspout to the back. They were very professional and very courteous. They also laid sod and transformed my yard into a beautiful area. I want to thank Ken from Creative Scape and the guy who did the work. A big thank you, and I will use them again."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Expect to spend around $10,000 to $11,000 to replace a 20-by-20-foot deck. Using high-end materials like composite or exotic hardwoods can drive up the cost, as can custom features and design elements. You can also expect to pay more than average if your deck replacement requires a site evaluation or if you need the work done during the busy season.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.

PVC decking tends to be cooler than composite because the material is less dense and absorbs less heat. However, it depends on the deck’s color. A dark-colored PVC deck may run hotter than a light-colored composite deck. If you’re concerned about your deck getting too hot, it’s best to stick to a light color such as beige or gray.

Before installing a new railing, check the condition of the deck frame and joists, especially around the perimeter where posts attach. If boards are loose, soft, or show signs of rot, the structure may need repair. A deck pro can inspect your framing to confirm it meets load-bearing requirements.
