Jacobs Servicesfriendly, discussed work, agreed on price, made appointment for work to be done. He sent text night before appointment that I didn't get until an hour before the appointment time. He didn't call to make sure I got the text. I responded immediately - texted and called, left voice message. Roy DaileyIt went surprisingly quickly. Once we talked about design and settled on budget and price he, was working. The picture I found on my phone was after the first day of work. He and his crew completed my deck and built a roof on it in about four days, not terrible by itself but throw in that it was raining almost every day and... Let's just say I'm impressed. He got it done when he said he would and for the price quoted.. I would not hesitate to rehire him or refer him to anyone.- Joel P.

Mars Construction LLCIt was a great experience. My husband and I always do our renovations, but this was way easier. They had fair prices and let me know things that we did not know were out of code. Very knowledgeable about flooring and other remodeling. Helped us make our home up to code so in the future we wouldn't have to redo anything. Barger Specialities LLCWe have a rather large deck on the back of the house, with two full size staircases that lead down to the back yard. Over time, the staircases had become wobbly, and several deck boards and hand rails needed to be replaced (due to weather, and dogs that like to chew things!). First and foremost, Bill secured the main stairway - SAFETY FIRST! Beyond that, all repairs were done expertly, and the repainting of the deck made the whole thing look brand new. JD HandymanI was looking for a deck cleaner and refinisher for our old deck that was very dirty and mildewed. I took a chance on someone in the want ads in the Tuscaloosa News. I didn't check Angie's List because before, there have never been people from Tuscaloosa listed. Anyway, called JD Handyman phone number and had to leave a message. Waited 2 days, but he called back and immediately apologized for not returning the call sooner. He asked about the job and we arranged a time for him to come the next day to look at the deck. He said he had to finish another job by noon and would call and then be at our house after that. He called and came by at about 2:00. He looked over the job, said he could do it for $350, if we bought the deck paint. He recommended a full coverage paint, due to the condition of the wood. He also recommended going to Lowe's because he had found that their personnel were the most knowledgable about deck finishes. He said he could start the job the next morning, if we had the paint. We agreed and went to Lowe's that night to get what we wanted. JD had said he would start at 9:30 because he had to run past another job before he came here. He showed up about 9:45, which was GREAT. (Better than almost all of any other workmen we have had.) After getting everything prepared, he worked till he had done 2 bleachings, scrubbings and rinsings. He told us he was leaving for lunch and would be back to do more. He came back to check on dark spots that needed more cleaning and worked on those. He then left for the day to let everything dry overnight. he said he would be back at 8:00 in the morning and he emphasized that twice to us. He returned about 8:10 in the morning and proceeded to paint. He painted the railings, seats and other side surfaces first and gave them 2 coats. He then painted the edges of the floor area between all the boards, with a brush, on his hands and knees -- very conscientious job. Then painted the boards with a roller. He waited a while and did the second coat. He then waited a while and did a touch up on areas that needed it. He was done by 12:30 and talking to us and leaving. My husband showed him some other exterior painting we need done on our house and JD gave us a quote for that job, too. We will be calling him again, soon. He is a very nice, courteous worker. He was quiet--no loud radio, or lots of phone calls. He mentioned Angie's List, so I am giving him a review here to help him get more work. You will not be disappointed, if you call him. He does lots of other things, too, like plumbing, interior painting, repair, electrical. But I don't know personally his skill in these areas.- Patricia K.

Sparks Handyman Service & ConstructionJeremy undid the previous work. He salvaged the materials and began the work anew. He was very professional in all his dealings with us and our architect. All our financial dealings were done professionally. He ordered the materials, showed us what was ordered. We paid the provider directly. There was no markup by him on the materials. He sent back what he didn't use to credit our account. He did some design work on the trim for the pergola. He finished out the ceiling of our screen porch with the salvaged wood. It is beautiful! We have had so many compliments on the design and workmanship. The roof of the porch is metal. He installed that as well. His helpers were friendly and professional. He was very punctual. He consulted us daily. There were never any financial or construction related surprises. We recommend him highly!- Sandra S.

1st Class Improvements LLCHe came by and gave a quote, and starting date. Called later to say he could start a day earlier. Work was outdoors, and the temperature was around 100 degrees each day. He was prompt, courteous, and patient, even in the sweltering heat. Cost was actually less than the price quoted!!- William K.

He got the french door in and was working fine. The door out stair is a metal and wooden door, I requested to replace the entire frame out but he didnt replaced the metal frame. he just put the metal door to metal frame but then realized that the metal frame was short. At the top of the door all the way down to the door knob it was cracked. it was a disaster! he came back out and thats been 3 weeks ago , told us to be back for following week to replace the door but he never came! we try to contact him several times and he didn't respond !

Recent Review:
Generally dissatisfied with the experience of working with them. Demo was done very hastily with little thought for what was planned, resulting in extra work to repair and cover up. It took 13 weeks to complete a 6 week project. We were given change orders that more than doubled the price of the project and those change orders were provided after the work was completed with no communication of price impacts before starting the work. Near the completion of the job, I was legit told that our original quote was a "marketing price meant to low ball and get the job" and that is not an acceptable way to do business. Most of the work done is fine, not great. The subs he used were mostly unqualified, incapable and frankly got confrontational when asked to repair bad work. We expected them to act as a GC and own much of the project management, but they took little responsibility for anything done wrong and did very little quality control on subs work. No clear project plan or organization throughout the process with poor communication all the way. Lots of claims of high character and reputation were made throughout the sales process and in the engagement, but I was frustrated by a couple of situations specifically: 1. They accidentally hit my car in my driveway (which happens and is not a big deal) but did not mention it to me until I noticed the damage and went back into my video surveillance and saw what was done. Once confronted, they did pay for it, but the fact that I had to ask about for them to admit to the accident and take responsibility for it is concerning. 2. I was provide receipts for reimbursement and they included more than $1500 of new tool purchases that I caught in review and had to inform them that those purchases were inappropriate to ask me to cover. I am generally displeased with how this all went and would not hire them again.

I worked with Cole Jones in getting a quote for our roof. Cole was responsive, on time, and thorough with his appointment, inspection and sitting down with us about the condition of the roof and options for a roof replacement. Sandy followed up with scheduling the roof replacement and all the paperwork which was in fantastic order. Blair showed up on the job, arranged for good weather (just kidding) and did what they said they would do when they said they would do. The knowledge, expertise and quality was evident at the end and we are very satisfied with our roof. It has been four months and not a single leak and they also replaced our gutters. It was a pleasure working with them.

My first inspection appointment was in early July 2020. Matt showed up to inspect and was very polite but was unable to inspect entire crawl space because of narrow clearance. He took pictures and measurements and recommended some things we could do to make the foundation more secure. I was told to expect a quote with pictures on Monday. After not hearing anything from him for 3 MONTHS after emailing him through the website and leaving messages on the office answering machine. Finally heard back from Matt on October 14th, and I agreed to another inspection with him bringing along another smaller sized worker that would be able to inspect the entire crawl space. Second inspection was November 5th 2020, they were very polite and found a few more things that could be improved. I was told to expect a quote on Friday. It is now December 7th and I have yet to hear anything from this company. Very frustrating and I will not be using them in the future.
