This outdoor living overhaul includes two patios, a pergola, a sprinkler system and an outdoor fireplace. All of which enhance the view of the Salt Lake Valley.
Salt Lake City member Richard Eastlyn and his wife, Ann, added two patios, stone steps at the front entrance, an outdoor fireplace, a pergola, fencing, rock gardens, a sprinkler system and much more to their property.
Richard says they wanted to make the most of the property, which has a view of the Salt Lake Valley. “[We wanted to] improve the natural beauty, entertainment capability and traffic flow [of] our backyard, and enhance the entrance to our home,” he says.
The Eastlyns planned many aspects of the project themselves. They visited showrooms to get the right materials to match the mountain-lodge style of their home. “My wife and I were involved in every aspect of the design and style, including sketching the rough draft of each project,” Richard says.
To complete the project, which cost just over $50,000, the Eastlyns hired Cottonwood Landscapes of West Jordan, Utah. Richard says they interviewed three landscaping contractors that were suggested by suppliers they visited.
“Cottonwood was the high bidder, but the most professional in all aspects of presentation, design, and experience,” Richard says. Richard also says Cottonwood Landscapes’ referrals, legal standards and insurance coverage helped him in his selection.

Richard says they use the new patio areas to host gatherings with family and friends. He says the fencing and other aspects of the design add to the security and privacy of the property.
“We are very pleased with the beauty and the livability it brings to our home and yard,” Richard says.
