You might try stopping by the DC Design House to indulge your need for inspiration while helping children in need.

The 2015 DC Design House, 956 Mackall Farm Lane in McLean, Virginia, showcases the work of more than 24 design firms from D.C., Maryland and Virginia. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Children’s National Health System.

This 8th annual event runs from mid-April to May 10.

“Our entire team is committed to making the event the best ever, while helping a great cause, Children’s National Health System,” says Stephen Yeonas of Yeonas & Shafran Real Estate, the McLean, Virginia, company that is in charge of sales at the event.

This 8,869-square-foot modern farmhouse offers light-filled interior rooms that blend old elements, such as antiques and reclaimed wood, with new features, including top-of-the-line kitchen appliances.

If you're looking for an interior designer, it's a great place to see a sampling of some of the best local talent.

Of special interest is the lower dining room, which was decorated by Scott Cooke Design in Alexandria, Virginia.

"Careful attention was paid to the contrasting of not only traditional style with contemporary, but also with polished and textured surfaces," Scott Cooke says.

Among the vintage touches are a gallery finished with stone from an old Virginia farmhouse and a library paneled in quarter-sawn oak.

The exterior features covered porches, antique-style lighting, and natural stone in a random, hand-cut pattern.

The design elements also extend to the yard thanks to Fine Landscapes in Sterling, Virginia, who did the landscaping.

The DC Design House began in 2008 as a design show house event for the city's metropolitan area in which top area designers showcased their talents into a “flowing design home” to raise funds for a local charity.
