About us
Dr. Kate Johnston is one of the true pioneers of acupuncture and oriental medicine in the United States. She began her studies in South Korea in 1981, then attended the first university of oriental medicine in the United States - SAMRA University of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles. After graduating with her PhD., she spent six months in China, studying with the masters and treating patients in hospitals and clinics there. She has been in private practice for the last 27 years, helping thousands of patients to regain their health by bridging the gap between this ancient wisdom and our modern world. Acupuncture: Acupuncture has been in wide use since its early discovery - over 3000 years ago! It originated in China, then spread throughout the Orient, Russia, Europe and many other areas, including only recently, the United States. With 30 centuries of continual use and development in treating billions of people, acupuncture has been perfected to a safe, painless and effective treatment with virtually no unpleasant side effects. Herbal Medicine: You may be advised to take herbal supplements in addition to your acupuncture treatments. These are prescribed according to the same system of medicine as acupuncture and are generally taken in the form of pills or tea. Tai Chi/ Qi Gong: There are many simple exercises that can have a profound effect on your health. Tai Chi and Qi Gong consist of gentle physical movement combined with breathing and visualization. You may be taught simple Qi Gong exercises for your specific condition or you can sign up for Tai Chi class if you like. Classes are for beginners and are held Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
