After taking in my wedding band, which I had worn for 22 years, to be up-sized by a half size at a local jeweler (not Teton but to Burri Jewelers that has a high end reputation), I was told that since my rings were a soldered pair it would be an automatic $135.00 to re-size them and they do not do it in house but have to send them away. In addition, when the jeweler they sent it to received it, he informed me that the crown was poorly soldered and had always been and he felt that I really needed to re-do the crown of the ring or I would lose the stone and the crown if I bumped it a few times. So Burri Jewelers wanted me to pay $185 or so for my wedding band, and they had re-tipped my wedding band a year and a half earlier and had not noticed any danger with the crown, plus I had worn it for 22 years and the ring seemed pretty solid to me. Also, I had taken a ruby ring that had lost a stone (I had the stone with me as well) in to Burris a year or so earlier and the jeweler had informed me he needed to build a new crown for it so I had Burris return it and decided to look for someplace that might have an in house jeweler for a second opinion.
A friend mentioned that Teton Jewelers had in-house jewelers and that she had someone recommend them to her. I went in and asked on pricing and he offered to up-size my wedding band even though it was a soldered pair for $20. I was a little stunned at the price quote. I asked him about the crown and he looked at it carefully and said that he personally preferred to solder a crown a little higher, but if it has held on this long, it is a fine solder. So I took out the ruby ring that Burris said needed a new crown and asked if he could fix it. He again looked closely at the pieces and said he could re-tip it with 4 tips and guarantee that the stone will hold for $40. Wow! Finally I pulled out the ring I was given by my grandparents that was a tip job with 15+ tips (I had all the rings in the same container) and explained that I was probably not ready but how much for that ring, and he studied it and offered to do it for $60. I couldn't help it--I actually said and quot;you're kidding!and quot; And in 2 days I had all 3 rings back.
I would recommend Teton Jewelers to anyone. The work was great, the turn-around time was quick, but highest quality. I felt like I was being dealt with by trustworthy and honest people who love their craft and are extremely talented.
