The first thing I will tell you is this: this window cleaner is honest and reliable as far as I can tell. The first time he did work at the house, I was satisfied - that's why I invited him back. The second time didn't go so well .... I have built a house and renovated two homes, and I've been ripped off too many times to count. And so, it has become my policy not to pay for work until it is completed. I don't think this is unreasonable. No one has ever found reason to fault me for this policy. Indeed, most people understand completely. The window cleaner arrived at my house promptly, and we agreed on a fair and reasonable price. So far, so good. I was leaving for work, and I asked him if he could leave me a bill. He asked me to give him a check for the completed job, even though it was still in progress. I tried to explain my policy of not paying until the work was completed ... That's when he went off on me! He accused me of calling him dishonest. He accused me of saying he was untrustworthy. I did no such thing, of course! I don't know how he could have inferred such a thing! Really, it was entirely inappropriate and extremely upsetting. At that point, I wanted him to leave. My response was to go into my house, get my checkbook, come back outside and offer to pay him for the work he'd done so far. He declined my offer, while continuing to rant and rave. He eventually took a check for $40 and left. He returned my check in the mail two days later, ripped in half. And so, before hiring Complete Window Cleaners, you might want to consider this story.
