septic tank

At the last minute my lender insisted on an updated septic system inspection, 2 weeks before closing on my home loan. I contacted Sharp's and asked if they could inspect the septic system and provide a report in time for a closing that was that soon. They said, "Sure, no problem". I set up an appointment for 4 days later, on a Thursday, since this was the soonest appointment they had. I intentionally asked for the first appointment of the day to avoid having a problem if they got tied up on another job. They never showed up. When I called that evening to inquire, I was told that they got stuck on another job that morning that they started at 5:30 a.m. There was no explanation for why I never received a phone call letting me know they'd be delayed. They assured me they'd be there next morning first thing. They showed up this time, inspected the system, pumped out the tank and said the report would be ready a their office first thing on Monday. I called the office Monday morning and was assured the report was ready and would be emailed to me, the lender and the settlement company before noon that day. At 2:00, none of us had received it. I called Sharp's again and was told it had been emailed. Still, none of us had it. I asked if she could fax it but their fax was broken. Finally, after half a dozen phone calls, it showed up in my inbox. However, it wasn't signed and it didn't have the contractor's license number on it, which meant it was useless. I called them back, but by then it was the end of the work day and the owner said he wouldn't be back in the office until 8:00 the next morning and would resend it then. I finally got it after placing yet another phone call to their office around 9:00 the next morning. Hurricane Sandy passed through our area about a month after Sharp's inspected my septic system. We got about 24 hours of steady rain and our septic alarm started to sound, indicating that the level in the tank was too high. When a different company came to diagnose the problem, they found that the cement ring at the opening of the septic tank had multiple large cracks in it which was allowing ground water to get into the tank and fill it up. This should have been pointed out to me at the time of the inspection, but wasn't. In my first phone call to Sharp's I explained how time critical my situation was and gave them an opportunity to turn down the job if they couldn't do the work. Looking back, I should have called another company when they said they couldn't come until 4 days later, but they assured me they could do it in that amount of time and, knowing they are a small, family run business, I wanted to give them the work. Taking them at their word cost me 4 business days. Then between not showing up at all the first day and delaying the report, they cost me 2 additional days unnecessarily.
Description of Work: This company was contracted to inspect and empty the septic system at a home I was purchasing.
