I found his number in the Bulletin Board, called him at first to redo porch and open it up, then he found the porch roof needed replaced. Asked them to clean out gutters, whereupon he found a problem on the roof where I knew there had been one, and proceeded to fix it, but the way the roof shingles are put down, some with no flashing and other flashing not properly installed, and rain running toward and under shingles with tarry edge coating already cracking and leaking; where gutter guard was put down it's not done properly under the edge of shingles, not uniform, slanted different ways, it was sure to leak. Also I asked for a one block in a sandstone block wall that had slipped down to be cemented back up, and it was put up on a slant, not even with the other blocks. Many things Mr. Smith told me I found were not true, by the detective's report. I called repeatedly for him to come back and fix the roof but he never did, and after another contractor showed me the problems and why it was guaranteed to leak, I'm glad he didn't. In addition to paying him way more than I should have - I'm not sure there's a way to calculate it - I'll have to pay someone else to undo and redo the garage roof problem. I do know that I paid $1,692 for 2400 sq. feet of roofing, and the recent contractor said only about a tenth or so was used, and I was told at Lowe's that according to their records he never even bought it there, the only shingles he purchased to that point were in April and they were brown; mine are gray. I checked with BBB out of Charleston but they needed a corporate name and I didn't have one, didn't even have an address, only the cell phone where I usually had to leave a message. I think it's blood out of a turnip to take it to small claims. Also - he told me he would give me a whole roof job at the bargain price of $8500, but I was suspicious by that time and got another estimate for $4500. So - Beware!!!
Description of Work: Take out middle wall on porch, install soffet in porch ceiling, replace porch roofing, porch gutters; build 2 sets of steps (okay, but not exactly level); shore up catwalk to make it stronger (not well done); install gutter covers (didn't do whole house); and, mainly, fix leaky roof over garage that now leaks much, much more than ever before.
