Roofing, Gutter Repair and Replacement
Not well at all. Did not go up on roof and measure as other contractors did,so consequently did not order enough roof material and had to reorder from another supplier I was told, slightly different color but noticeable only predrilled screw holes on about two thirds of panels , I was told all would be predrilled another contractor said the cut panels should have been spray painted to prevent rust? the biggest mistake was they cut the panels to long {extended too far into 5" gutters and rain over shot gutters, they did install rain dams but they are just leaf catchers i made final payment when they were packing up tools and ladders because I thought they were done but when I got up on roof where I could see they had left about a forth of leaf gaurds off? Very sloppy fit of valleys and chimney flashing. Had a lot of issues of being told crew would show up but did not It has been about 4 months since job started. I called John to express my dissatisfaction with job and he offered to try to make things right. But I want the job done. Going to get someone to come in and put up 6" gutters and gaurds as other 3 bidders suggested, they also said the job would take 3 days. I liked the guy and thought he seemed sincere, but I think he just spreads his crews too thin jumping around on different jobs his price was $850.00 to$1200.00 better than other bidders ,next time I will do my research. Price should always not be the main determination.

AWFUL. He was suppose to be done in 10 days. Never finished, but majority of work he did was completed in 2 months weather postponed some but poor planning more. He told us our 3 year old gutters weren't sufficient for the metal roof runoff, but then tried to put up the same size then had us pay extra for the larger gutters because that's not what he quoted us. He told us things that weren't true about the under-layment materials and the metal roof warranty. He knew less than my husband who had researched metal roofs on line before we decided between shingles and metal. He was extremely rude to my husband, saying he didn't care if we left a bad review or gave a "D" about what my husband thought. (he did apologize later) He hired people without experience. Never arrived when they said they would. Always needed to "finish" another job elsewhere. Never had enough or the right tools or parts - we had to provide tools and parts. Often his chargeable tools weren't charged. The roof capping impaled its self in the yard because he didn't use enough screws to hold it when they left for the day. His roofing foreman did seem to know what he was doing. and except for finishing details like fastening the roof ridge properly or flashing around dormers, putting enough screws in around eves to hold flashing on and keep insects from building nest up under it and just making it look great and finished to me, I do feel like our roof is sturdy and we are extremely happy with the results except for the detail work. We ended up buying boots to match our copper penny metal roof. We paid extra for quality materials and ended up hiring someone else to actually put up the gutters and fix some of the roof issues so basically paid for them twice. We were under contract to pay 1/2 down 1/2 completed. Then we were told we'd need to pay $2500 before the roof was done because the crew wouldn't get paid if we didn't, so foolishly we did. They did take away debris and did a pretty good job of cleaning up the roof materials but they put stuff down the living room chimney which fell onto our fireplace insert and never even offered to clean that up
The water heater install was a disaster. He did buy the heater we selected but after that it was down hill. He assured us that he would have it installed by someone qualified to enforce the warranty. He Lied. He didn't get the right parts to install it. They did remove the old water heater OK. The plumber didn't have the right tools or parts because he thought John was going to have everything there. So he was frustrated starting. Of course they had taken out the old one so we didn't have any hot water and he said he didn't want to leave us without hot water, but he should have. We needed to have a hole drilled through the foundation to vent the water heater. He didn't inform us or make any attempt to contain the mess he was about to make. My grandson who was visiting that weekend, came running out of the house saying, "Grandma, the whole basement is filled with red smoke" . Everything (and its a full basement that is full of storage and stuff) was covered with the red brick dust and all along the wall chunks of brick and stone. He went to our small town local hardware store and got parts that got us hot water but didn't meet the specs and didn't install it using the rings that would have made the hole look better. There's a sheet of paper on the outside that tells you exactly what should be done with the install. NOT DONE. He left it messy with old pipes capped off and the new lines coming off from pipes a foot or more away from the wall. We have not hired someone to clean it up, but are planning to do so this spring. (Again having to pay twice for the same thing)
He did install the sun-setter but didn't finish it, so its starting to come apart.
He did put up the rails with the new supports he said we needed that I bought, but they put the sleeves on upside down and drilled new holes in them so that now there are ugly holes showing.
We talked about everything we wanted before we started and still every time we questioned what he was doing or not doing he acted surprised. We talked about already having some bad experiences and he seemed so sincere about doing a good job and doing it right, but again we feel taken. We both feel like we should have fired him but neither knew how we would ever get it finished if we did. We definitely should not have paid him as much as we did. We only held back $200 on his promise that he would get the water heater installed properly. Why we believed him at that point I don't know, but also just wanted him gone.
He's an excellent salesman but NOT a good contractor.

Roofing
The work began in June. It was not completed until the end of July. There were always issues with manpower and other jobs. Rarely did the work start each day at the stated time. Workers were pulled off our job often to go to other jobs. We still have issues, have contacted the provider, and have had no response. Throughout the project we would need to call them to come back and correct a problem. We have been so disappointed in their communications and ability to complete their work. It is now 8 months later, and we still have problems. We call and leave messages. Sometimes the messages are returned, and the response is that they will come the next day. Unfortunately, they do NOT come the next day. More often than not, the messages are not returned. We are looking for other providers to fix our problems. I would not recommend this contractor to anyone, even my worse enemy!
