"I am happy that the [members name] were able to manage to incorporate all the items they wanted into the space. Since it was September 26, 2013 that I presented my design and quote for the bathroom, I do not recall all the specifics. I presented not one design, but three versions, of which only one included a corner shower. That being said, I would like to point out that I and my other design staff always try to accommodate requests and preferences of our clients. It would be impossible to sell jobs if we did not. But I would be remiss if I did not point out that while we try to meet client’s expectations, we feel we must follow our judgment concerning spacing of products in a given area. I always do my best to make my customers happy, which makes me happy. I do apologize to [members name] for not meeting their expectations. I would love to see what they accomplished in their new bath. I will also issue them a refund of the design fee. -Ed Davis"
BUT....
The only problem I have is with the cost of the installation. I understand Davis Kitchen and Tile have overhead and need to charge me more than the actual cost a privately contracted installer would have charged me...but it was seriously twice as much as what is typical from other privately contracted installers. Yes, I have hired privately for other tile jobs in our home that were even more involved that this one, and the work was done with excellence for half the cost/per hour. When I questioned the owner of Davis on the labor cost, he refused to budge even one dollar. His excuse was that they have a minimum labor charge for even a fairly small job such as ours. Wow...I wish I could charge my customers this way (no, wait...no I don't...)
Bottom line: go to Davis to get great ideas and maybe even purchase your materials through them. But, do NOT have them subcontract your installer. Find someone privately to do this and, even if you give your installer a big tip, you will still come out WAY ahead.
"I am always appreciative of great reviews from our clients on our products, designs, and professionalism of my talented employees. But I am puzzled about the negativity of [member name removed] review concerning the installation costs. Throughout the process of choosing the tile and design for their backsplash (which covered a wall 94” long, incorporating four different sizes of product and included design work above the range), to actually reviewing and signing the written contract at no time did [member name removed] ever question the quoted cost of installation. They paid a deposit and agreed to pay the balance upon the satisfactory completion of the work (which they obviously loved). No corners were cut; there were no surprises, no additional fees. According to the [member name removed], my staff designed a “great” tile backsplash, did a “fantastic” job on the installation, and completed it “faster” than expected, and, yes, at the agreed upon price. It is a shame and disheartening for me to read a undeserved review such as this. Ed Davis"
