I've used this establishment for years and have been very happy with their services. However I called with an emergency situation at 8:00 am on Monday and explained that my dog had been in a fight and that his eye was in very bad shape. I further explained that his eye was protruding and dripping blood. I wanted to bring him in right away and was told several times that 2:30 that afternoon was the best they could do which was totally unacceptable. I contacted another vetinary hospital who told me to bring him in right away. They performed emergency surgery and were wonderful with him. I don't know yet if he's going to be able to keep his eye but I'm comfortable that they have and will do everything possible.

Everything has been good so far. They take care of the animals and really look into the actual pet to make sure they are doing well. The staff is very nice and I like them. The veterinarians are also very nice. I've been pleased at how they handle the dogs and stuff. They're just very warm and everybody likes them. My next door neighbor thinks the world of them. Their prices are very reasonable compared to where I used to go. I had to take my older dog in when he was sick and they were pretty good. I've had no problems with them.

They were able to reschedule the service since I was running behind. The vet that saw her was wonderful and took good care of her. She took the time to explain everything very carefully on the side effects of the medicine. She told me to call for a follow up to make sure everything is going ok. We have been going there for 7-8 years and they have taken care of our pets with great care.

My first 2 visits were the better experiences with the office out of the entire relationship. 1st time I just bought food and made an appointment. The blonde 'receptionist' was super friendly but it seemed that was not her usual job duties. The black haired younger receptionist, I think the main one, every single encounter I had with her, she was just hateful, insensitive and rude. On the 1st visit there, while talking with the blonde, the black haired came busting in on the conversation and you easily tell by the change in the blonde's mood that she was doing 'something' the black haired did not agree with, she got really rushed and cold just as soon as the black haired lady arrived. I just brushed it off.

2nd visit, I got to meet the vet. I was actually quite pleased with the whole encounter, even the black haired receptionist was decent this visit. A little cool but not rude or insensitive. I figured we were still getting to know each other, she just needs time to warm up to need clients. The prices were amazing! The office, facilities, the entire place is old and run down, but to me if they take care of my pet well, treat me with respect, then I can overcome those things. It's about quality to me, not who has the newest and fanciest gadgets. At this time, I am satisfied with this vet, though this is my one and only time seeing the vet in person. She seemed to listen to what I had to say and was 'willing to work' with me on the care of my pet, instead of just demanding I do this or that.

Next trip I purchased food; same black haired receptionist, still very cold, very hateful.

Next, I had just arrived back in town on a Saturday morning and my dog was having an outbreak. I showed up to see if they could squeeze her in... They would have to make an appointment for Monday! Ok, I truly do understand this scenario, I get it. They are small with only two vets and are not set up for last minute 'emergencies'. But from my point of view, I am not going to let my dog suffer two more days. Therefore, they are of no use to me if I cannot rely on help 'when' I need it, not 2 days 'from when I need it'. So I leave to find a different vet. By the way, the black haired receptionist was who helped me this trip, she was not AS rude this time but still insensitive.

Next trip was for anal glands. I was refused to go back with my dog during the procedure. This sends a red flag! What do they have to hide from me to prevent me from being in the room during such a routine procedure? I want to be involved in all my pets’ interactions with people, I used to work with animals and I KNOW how some folks treat 'our' pets and I do NOT want my pet to be abused by anyone. Therefore, I want to be present to observe this for myself. The black haired receptionist is pretty hostile with my request, no sensitivity, no smile, just completely hateful. At this point I know and I am done with giving her the benefit of the doubt, this IS her attitude. I am handed back my dog, and her rear end is covered in anal glands, they never even wiped her with a paper towel or anything. I go to my car and clean her myself; I just paid these folks money to do this service for me!

As far as the vets go, at this point I could not honestly give you an opinion on them. One visit is not enough to make a recommendation. However, if you judge them by the staff they use to operate the business, I would tell anyone to stay away from Martinsburg Animal Hospital. The vets could be the greatest vets around, but you cannot get past the front to give them a chance; which is so sad because they are allowing the staff to run the place into the ground. And worse of all, the animals are the ones to suffer.
