I have heat again! Doug was referred to by one of my neighbors. I called him on a Monday. He came that day to look at the system, then came back on Tuesday to fix the problem. Doug was able to locate the leak in the outside unit, seal it, and charge up the system. I will always be grateful for his knowledge, years of experience (and in business), and thoughtful advice. Compared to past HVAC services, Doug's honesty and upfront nature was a breathe of fresh air. I have no hesitation to call on him again, and will refer him to family and friends.

We called Doug's Heating and Air as he was located near us. We called at 8:15 pm and by 9:00 pm we were up and running after he replaced the capacitor. He was able to diagnose and fix the problem quickly. He was professional and courteous.

I had been two days w/o A/C. The weather had been extremely hot, high 80s or 90s both of those days. I also have a dog and two Angora rabbits in the house. I was getting ready to fly to Florida to buy/look for a house in three days. My regular A/C technician was already tied up with jobs over the weekend. I had to find a reliable provider quickly. I found Doug's on Angie's List with all A's. I told this provider my house was "under contract" for sale and needed the A/C on both floors repaired (which were not working) and the coils cleaned (all per buyer's house inspection report, which I showed himt). Needless to say, after consulting my uncle, I told Doug's I didn't want to add any more Freon to A/C unit for downstairs and that I would just like to pay him for his service. Another heating & air conditioning service was recommended to me and arrived the next morning. The first thing this technician did was go under the house and clean the coils (10-15 min maybe). He said this is the first thing as a technician you're supposed to do. (Doug's never did it even after I asked him.) He checked system and found dirty evap coil service caps loose and Schrader leaking. He cleaned coil. He tightened Schrader valve. He charged system and replaced caps. My A/C seems to be cooler than it's ever been and I didn't have to buy a new unit. Doug's Heating & Air Conditioning charged almost twice as much per pound for Freon than the provider that came the next day and actually fixed the downstairs unit. I will not use them again and will not recommend them. Even the technician that came the next day laughed when I told him how much Doug's charged for the Freon...

I left a phone msq at midnight.  He replied next morning and was here an hour later .  A/C   was running fine again before 9:15 AM

Was very courteous and professional. Also gave informative advice on cleaning and maintenance of A/C.

He is local and friendly.  I have a trust factor with him.  I trust his opinion.  He has an excellent service and he is amazing.  He'll come out the same day if you need him.  He'll go out of his way.  I recommend him very highly.

After calling for several quotes, and after coming up with the funds to pay for the repair, we decided to go with Doug so called him to schedule. We were able to schedule a time quickly (within 2 days) and he even came out and did the work while it was raining. It took him about 5 hours to do the job, during which time he came in and out of the house to wash parts but never spoke about the work being done.

When he was finished outside, he came in and asked to see the air handler for the unit and made some recommendations on issues we may need to keep an eye on.

He then told us that he had need to add an additional 2.5 gallons of Freon and that normally would cost $95 per gallon but he would give it to us for $75. This brought our new total price to over $850 after tax. WAY more than we had budgeted for it.

When we expressed concern at the additional cost, he simply stated that it had needed the extra Freon. We then stated concern that he had gone ahead and added the additional Freon (though that was not in the initial work request) without first discussing it with us (the cost, the risks, our options, etc) so we could make an informed decision. We told him we understood it may have needed it but we would have liked to know if we could have waited until a later date to add it. He had taken that option away from us and did additional work without notifying us or getting permission.

He then, sarcastically said "Well, I can take 2.5 pounds of pressure out if you say you don't need it". We said that wasn't the issue, it was that we would have liked to make an informed decision on when to get it done. He then pointed out how his price was "still lower" than that "other estimate" to which we told him that was beside the point.

Bottomline is, he did decent work but we were left in over $200 in extra charges that we didn't budget for because he made a repair without discussing it wit us first. So, our recommendation is to make sure you discuss all possible costs up front and make sure you make it clear to him that he should make no additional changes or repairs without discussing it with you first. Otherwise, he'll make a decision that could cost you hundreds.

When we turned on the air conditioning this spring, it blew hot air, not cold. Called Doug's and they came out right away to look at it. Turned out there was a broken part that controlled when the heat and air conditioning was working. They replaced it, added some freon to the system, and gave some suggestions on helping the system work better in the future. Quick service, identified the problem right away, and fixed it for what we felt was a reasonable price. We couldn't be happier.

My exchange unit was frozen. I had put a high allergen filter in two weeks ago and it caused the freeze up and also would have eventually overworked the motor on the unit had Doug not found it. He advised me to remove the filter and replace it with a filter that I can see through that will let the air flow through it better.
He was here on time - in 20 mins from the time I called. He serviced my unit and added 1 lb of Freon to boot.
I recommend them.

The overall estimate, work and cost was excellent. I don't know if they would be able to come immediately if you wait until their busy season but they certainly did come this time. It is a small company but I believe they are honest, hard workers and know exactly what they are doing. We deliberately called prior to what we would consider their busy time for spring maintenance thinking we would get ahead of the crowd. We asked him about their responsiveness during the winter and hot months of summer and he said that although he could guarantee they could come within hours, he was sure they would be able to come the same day or the next one at the latest (I was impressed that he did NOT try to provide a "guarantee" which would have triggered me to think he wasn't honest since it would be impossible to know what weather conditions might be at the time or how many calls they might have prior to hours. " Overall we were very satisfied with the service, the responsiveness, their knowledge of the business and the cost for the job and will definitely use them again. I would not wait for an "emergency" to call them - or any other company for that matter - because its best to be an established customer. The company we used in the past has changed ownership and the previous owner is working elsewhere so we wanted to find a new company to call for service and repairs on our heat pump. We will be using this company as long as their service maintains the current level of expertise and responsiveness.

We had this company again today (September 23, 2013) and the experience was the same as the last time. He was even a few minutes early. Did a thorough job and we definitely will be staying with this company for our heat and air conditioning needs. We have a heat pump.

He is very good, and very friendly. His prices are affordable. He was the cheapest of all the estimates I had. If he says he's going to be here at 8am he's here at 8am. I'm very happy with the service he provides.
