He did fine gutting the place, but then it appeared that I had advanced him too much and he preferred, it seemed, to walk away. I paid extra, paid many of his so-called suppliers directly, and hired my own finisher. They made some critical errors, e.g., letting the pump freeze ($900), leaving a corner of the kitchen unfinished ($1200) after much gnashing of teeth, and installed a tub wrong, but the most important problem was that the house took almost two years to finish with nothing being done for weeks on end.
