The pickup occurred when promised. Helper named Randy disconnected the set from the wall and the other components, while Mike wrote up what he calls a "reciept" for the $40. (There's an area on the back of his business card labeled "reciept" which he uses for this purpose.) Mike collected his $40 and abruptly (rudely) called off all chit-chat. He gave the impression that he was a very busy man. The pickup was on a Friday. Mike said he would call me on Monday with his diagnosis. He didn't call until Tuesday. Mike's inability to explain things made it quite impossible for me to understand most of what he said, though I did get the idea that he could fix the random on-off problem and otherwise clean up the interior of the set (he mentioned nicotine stains). Price: $110, with delivery either on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday. I authorized him to proceed, but I asked that he return the set today (Tuesday). He said I'd have it. He even specified the time. Mike (and Randy) showed up on time (even a bit early), brought the set back into the house, and attempted to put it back and reconnect the various cables. I had not touched any of them after the set was removed, and I thought that Randy had laid them out on the shelf so he'd remember where they went. But Mike attempted the reinstallation, with a little physical help but no advice from Randy. The TV picture worked, but the TV sound didn't. Nor did the external speakers. Mike fiddled around for a while, emphasizing the he was the expert. We tried a CD. No sound. Mike arrogantly pointed out my stupidity in not first turning on the external amplifier. I turned it on, music played, and Mike and Randy left. It was only minutes later that I discovered that the music we heard was coming from the radio, not the CD, and that neither the TV nor any of its accessories was producing sound. I called Mike and he said he would be right back. He was, along with Randy. Mike fiddled with cables, repeatedly reminding me that he was the expert. The upshot after about 15-20 minutes of testing this and testing that was that the only sound I could get with the TV was from the TV's own speakers, though before Randy took out the set I had sound through both the TV and the external speakers if I wanted it (as I usually did). Mike succeeded in getting the DVD/CD machine to play through the external speakers. He could not get the VHS to produce sound through both the TV and external speakers. He said that that was the best he could do, period. Randy said nothing at any point in all this. I told Mike that "the best he could do" was to put things back together the way they were before Randy disconnected the TV. He refused. He arrogantly refused. He said, in effect, I don't have time for this, so take it or leave it. He was so irritating that I invited him (and Randy) to leave -- with my $110 check, of course. I would never recommend this company or its boss to anyone for any job under any circumstances. Indeed, I would urge everyone who does not like dealing with people who can't do a proper job and then insult the customer, or give him ultimatums when things to awry, to stay away. BTW, when I told Mike that "reciept" was a misspelling, he said sarcastically that that'd be something he'd worry about a lot (snicker, snicker).
Description of Work: 20" TV set in living room not working properly; it was clicking on and off for no reason and would not play TV or other units hooked up to it (TIVO, DVD/CD, VHS). Owner of this company ("Mike") said that he would pick up the set and check it out for $40. He also said that he would then call to tell me what was wrong and what was needed to fix it, including the price to fix it.
