"I did 2 jobs for this member. I replaced a compressor on the system she is referring to because she said she didn't have the money to replace the system. The new compressor lasted 1 day! The system has been replaced by another company as it should have been from the start. The job she failed to mention was where another company installed a txv and did a poor seider joint and lost all of the r22. I repaired and the system was fine. The total bill including the $635 compressor was $1135. I also used her r22 refrigerant that she inherited with the properties something most company's won't do. As far as me coming there drinking, my brothers party had been scheduled for 3 months,I was just trying to get her tenant some ac. One thing I've learned in 25 years of businesses is you can't and won't make everyone happy especially the ones who have had things given to them!"
Billy was very thorough in explaining what his crew was doing and made sure to address my preferences with where they would be installing the vents and returns. The Blue Ridge crew were very polite and professional, they answered all of my questions with a positive attitude.
The install took 3-4 days including new ductwork.
Have had the new system now for almost a year and it was worked great! Cools well in the summer, heats great in the winter.
Installation went smoothly, but took a day longer than anticipated. All areas were thoroughly cleaned at the end of each day's work and especially at the end of the job -- no equipment, tools, or dust were in our way at the end of a work day. Drop cloths and cardboard covers were place over the floors between the entrance and attic steps to protect the hardwood.
When the work was finished, Billy walked through to inspect everything and ensure all was working well. He also explained the operation of the new system and programmable thermostat (helpful, if you've never had one of these before).
At the end of the job, we had a finely-tuned heat pump system -- a huge improvement over the original electric baseboard heat. I'm also looking forward to never installing window air conditioners, again.
One minor nit. A couple of mornings, the crew arrived much later than I was told and did not call to let me know. Yes, the weather had been a factor, but a simple phone call would have been greatly appreciated.
In all, I'd gladly use Billy's services again and would recommend them to anyone else. Not only did the whole gang do a great job, they were pleasant and friendly to work with.
I can't remember exact details of the actual installation. I do remember that they would give me an approximate time to come and start in the morning and often showed an hour or so late. They were polite and courteous while on site. After the first day, we found a plastic soda bottle that had been used as a spit cup for dip (smokeless tobacco). I brought this immediately to Rinker's attention and he apologized for it. One issue I had with their work was that they had not told us what areas were needed to be cleared for them to work. Our basement was used primarily for storage and the workers took it upon themselves to stack (appeared more to be throw) boxes and other items on top of each other to make room. I would have gladly moved the items for them but they never asked.
When it comes to their workmanship, the unit runs great and it was a very clean and cosmetic install. However, he had not mentioned two key items during the quote. One was that he did not include running electric in the quote. Although, he did hold himself to the quote and do the electric himself, which was very appreciative. The other is he did not mention that patching the drywall ceiling after install was not in the quote. This was not a problem for ME because we planned on removing the popcorn style ceiling anyway, but may be an issue for others who plan on having a complete ceiling. ANother issue is that where they put the return (in a large closet) through the atic, they did not seal the ceiling into the attic. We now have little pieces of attic insulation falling into the closet every once in a while.
Overall we are happy with the installation and the unit. I think they can offer very good service and much of the issues may be with Rinker's selection of laborers. I was very pleased with Rinker and his professionalism, but not so much his workers.
Two days before the installation was to occur, I recieved a phone call from Billy stating that he would be out of town & not be able to do the installation personally, but he was willing to stop by my home with one of his service technicians, Shane. I was slightly concerned about this situation, only because Billy had previously explained to me that he wanted to be able to help out if there was a problem with the installation. But, I needed to get this installation completed, so I agreed on the original installation date anyway.
On the day of the installation, Shane and his crew arrived on time, which I have found to be rare for most contractors. Within an hour, they had removed the existing HVAC components: the furnace, lines, and outdoor air conditioner. I checked in on the crew periodically, as I was curious as to how the installation was progressing. The entire installation took almost 5 hours, which isn't long for the type of work that needed to be performed. After the initial startup, Shane was very professional about going over the manual, maintenance procedures, and how to contact the company if there were any problems.
