A 90 year old relative noted that their HVAC system was not functioning on a Saturday morning in March (2024). ELCO sent a TECH to the residence the same afternoon. He spent 3 hours “troubleshooting” the problem but only found that a simple fuse had tripped/blown in the air handler. He advised that someone else would have to come back at a later date just to “double check everything again”. So 3 hrs were charged to simply replace a $1.00 fuse that day. A tech returned the following week & charged 2 additional hrs just to “double check the system”. The system continued to operate fine following the initial fuse replacement back on SAT. ELCO charged just under $700 (5 hrs plus a truck fee) to do a 30-minute job. Their owner never reached out to us after calling several times to question the over-inflated invoice. ELCO office staff just used the excuse that “our work is like finding a needle in a haystack”! Consumers beware ! ELCO will exaggerate their “BILLABLE HOURS” and attempt to pad their pockets at your expense. They will continue to lose customers by the thousands with these type of business practices. Avoid ELCO MECHANICAL.

I called ELCO because my furnace burners would only stay on for 20 seconds. It is an older furnance and I told the technician the gas company had left a note on my door a month earlier indicating there was a leak in the area. Instead of simply testing the gas pressure first (a task that takes less than 10 minutes) the technician spent four hours "cleaning" the burner assembly" and replacing a electonic switch which did not fix the problem. He also spent almost an hour driving to and from to get parts, and ELCO charged me for that time as well. Finally, after five hours and close to $600 in service and part charges, the guy finally plugged in the gas pressure gauge and realized that the gas supply from the gas company was not sufficient to keep the burners on. He left in a hurry and a month later I got the $600 bill. I called the owner to tell him I thought the charge was excessive and the technician should have figured out the problem in much less time. I asked for a small reduction in the charge and the owner refused to do anything to make it right. I will NEVER use them again and would encourage others to look elsewhere for HVAC repair services.

It went well and they cleaned up after they finished. I have zero complaints about the quality of work performed.
