I’ve used Comstock Plumbing for years; however, I will not use them going forward and CANNOT recommend them. I ordered and they installed a hybrid water heater at my house in August 2020. And the plumbing connections the installed added greatly increased the footprint over the other water heater they previously installed in 2010. On December 24, 2020, I had a service appointment with Chip (same Comstock plumber who did the August 2020 water heater installation) to repair a sump pump. He said he needed to order a replacement part and that the repair likely wouldn’t happen until after the new year. I was fine with that, holidays and all. It is now mid March 2021 and they are still telling me they have to find the replacement part. With a mere 10 minutes of my effort, I found the manufacturer, called them, got the contemporary part number, and ordered a replacement pump off Amazon. I will find someone with plumbing skills who is responsive to install it. This will not, NOT, be someone affiliated with Comstock Plumbing.

They came out and provided my quotes on various issues we were having. Very open and honest. We just replaced the water heater. Price was slightly less than quoted which was nice. Came on time and left with no issues left behind. very personable.

Bought this house 2 1/2 years ago and called Comstock because they came promptly when called. Upon arrival, the plumber knew the house as he had worked on it under previous ownership. Since then, they have been just great showing up promptly, fixing problems and keeping my older house plumbing up to par. Bought a water softener tank from them this fall. They did a very good job in installing and explaining how to use it properly. Just a really good responsive company.

On July 5, we had a pipe burst and subsequently flood our basement. We contacted Comstock Plumbing because we had used them in the past. They came out the next day and gave us an estimate to fix the pipe ($285) and to fix all our toilets ($120). He fixed the pipe that day but got called away by dispatch so had to return the next day (July 7) to fix the toilets.
The work on the pipe was done quickly and well and they were there when they said we'd be.
When he came back to fix the toilet, he discovered he would need to cut a hole in our wall to replace the wall valve but asked my husband for permission to perform the work first since it would require the hole. My husband okayed it and prepared to pay the $124 invoice he had written up. His assistant then took him back upstairs and apparently while up there, they realized that just a flapper replacement (which he was going to do for us as a courtesy since it would only take 10 minutes) wasn't enough but they would also have to replace the flush valve. At no point did they tell us of the new repairs required or inform us of any change in price. When they came back down, he added $110 to the invoice claiming he actually had to replace a flush valve. W were upset because we can replace a flush valve ourselves for about $15 but he had done it without authorization for $110. But my husband payed it so the plumber would leave. He later called to complain and requested our money back because the plumber had not received authorization to perform that additional work. The lady we spoke to said she would have the owner call us the next day.
When he called, he was insulting, rude, constantly interrupting and demeaning. As we explained the situation, he first tried to claim that we shouldn't be upset about the price because we weren't charged a service charge, which we refuted because we had been charged a service charge the first day for the pipe repair. He implied we should have also been charged a service charge for the second day, even though the only reason the plumber had to come back the second day was because he was called away by dispatch the first day so could not finish the work. When we explained we never would have authorized a flush valve repair for $110 when we could do it ourselves for $15, he laughed and insulted us.
We then when on to explain how, upon examination, the flush valves in our toilets were the same ones that were there when the plumber arrived, so we don't think he actually DID the repair he charged us for, he got belligerent. When we further pointed out that two of the three toilets he claimed to repair were still having problems he said "well you obviously don't like us so call someone else to fix it" and hung up.
These people are rude, dishonest, unethical, and insulting. I wouldn't recommend them to my enemy

I was having pressure problems with my well and called them to check it out. I had used them this past spring for a similar problem. The tech was very fast in responding to my call. As the tech was checking out my well system, he informed me that unless I lose pressure completely it can be difficult to determine what the cause is. I let the tech go about his work and approx. 1/2 hr later he came up from the basement. He informed me that he replaced the "control box" and that I should be "good" to go. I questioned him about replacing this part, especially after he told me that this problem can be difficult to diagnose without the system completely shutting down. I was assured once again that this "should" resolve the problem and off he went.
Within hours I was once again without reliable water pressure. Since the following day was the beginning of the weekend I waited til Monday to stop by their shop to discuss my problem.
The receptionist was very nice. I informed her of my problems and expressed that I felt I was charged for a "control box" that I didn't need. She informed me that she would talk to the tech as well as the owner regarding this. A couple of days passed and I never heard from them.
The reason I am writing this review is because Comstock chose not to contact me regarding this. Very poor customer service. As a result, I contacted another company, had my well pump replaced and Comstock missed out on a $1500.00 job. All they had to do was to give me a call back...

The gentleman repaired the leaking drain and we opted to shop around for the replacement hose bib. The quoted price was a bit high. Shopping around other plumbers offered to do the work for cheaper (200 versus 350). The gentleman fixed the issue with our leaking drain and seemed to do quality work. These guys are a bit pricey so I recommend calling other companies on Angie's List first. We also had troubles scheduling and had to play phone tag before we could get ahold of someone which was a little annoying.

Several times there were leaks in the kitchen sinks, and at least one problem with my well outside, also replacement of toilet. At least 4 different service calls. I've always been very pleased with their service. They have been reliable. They come out when they say they will. One time there was a problem, and they came out and fixed it at no additionial charge.

They were supposed to call before they came out. The showed up without the courtesy call. They joked that maybe it wasn't working because it wasn't plugged in. They said the guy who is familiar with the filter was unavailable and they were unfamiliar with the machine. they reset the timer so it wasn't cycling during the day. Then they left saying if it does what I want it to do with the water, it should be fine, if the iron was still in the water, they would have to come back out with the expert. They did not check the chemical levels or the water levels. They were unprofessional and inept. Why send people out who are unfamiliar with the equipment when you have an expert who is familiar? I could have reset the timer and plugged it in and saved myself the money.

I cannot say too much good about them. I asked them to come out, which they did and I asked them to check and see if they could find out why I didn't have water. I had asked them not pull the pump out especially because my wife had lost her job and I had a foot surgery and was out of work but without my approval, they pulled the pump. I was sitting right here, looking out the window when they started to pull the pump and I knew I couldn't get to them fast enough because I was afraid if I did I would say something that I would be sorry for. Same guys on another occasion, I was still down on my foot and this time I asked them to pull the pump and they couldn't get it out, so I went out there and pulled it for them, basically, pulled it lose, so they could pull it out. They were getting paid by the hour and they couldn't break it lose; they had special equipment and everything. I am no pump guy but I did it and they couldn't.

They show up as promised. That does not mean they can come as soon as you call, but if they say they will be there in the morning, they will be. They have responded for emergency calls for evenings and weekends as well.

It was Friday afternoon and snow was forecast for the night and following morning. I called other plumbers, but no one could come out on that day; one could come Saturday, and quot;weather permitting.and quot; Comstock Plumbing tried to get there before their normal day ended at 4:30 pm, but could not make it. However, they did have a 24-hour service, and the overtime guy came promptly, fixed the problem in no time, and also adjusted the flapper to work smoother. Although I had to pay time-and-a-half, it was worth it to have the problem fixed before the (holiday) weekend. The only possibly unprofessional thing Inoticed was that the plumber did not wear booties over his workboots, as other plumbers sometimes do. (Who knows where those boots have been and what germs they carry?)

This contractor was the one chosen by my home warranty company. I called to put in a work order with the warranty company when I noticed
water leaking out around the bottom of our water heater. I received a phone call from Comstock Plumbing two days later.
My hot water heater was replaced unnecessarily with a lower quality unit. When the technician first arrived he told me he could not exactly pinpoint the cause of the water around the tank but would replace the tank anyways because it was covered. I was initially pleased by this of course. He also told me it would be replaced with exactly the same thing. It was not. While it was the same size it was a lower quality brand and I would not have allowed the replacement if I had known this would be the case prior to installation. When I contacted the home warranty company they told me this was normal practice however it was not what I was told by Comstock Plumbing.
After returning to my home for the 3rd time (they did not have an 80 gal water heater in stock and had to return a second time to install it) I was told that it was not a bad water heater causing a leak but instead I needed a thermal expansion tank and a pressure reducing valve. I was quoted $391 for this repair which of course, is not covered under my home warranty. This of course is in addition to the $60 I paid for the original service call and the $20 disposal fee I had to pay (by the way,the technician told me he was going to charge my warranty company $80 for disposal if my policy covered it).
I feel that I was given the runaround on this repair and that the company took advantage of the fact that we are first time homeowners and didn't know any better. I will never use this contractor again even if I experience another problem that is covered under my home warranty. I would rather pay out of pocket and know I'm not being scammed than have anyone from this company in my home again.

Overall, the installation and professionalism in service has been great. Dale has come out 3 times to service and check my softener, especially after a 24 hr. black out period after I had called Comstock Plumbing. Each time, he came out within the same day.

On 20 February 2012 I went downstairs and discovered I had had a back-up during the night that impacted my entire lower level.I called Comstock after reading their reviews locally. One bad review out of 5 was okay I thought. The technician came in, shook a pipe in the laundry room which resulted in a flushing noise and reported toilet paper may have gotten stuck in the pipe. He didn't look anywhere else. He was rude, arrogant and completely indifferent to me as a customer. He presented me with a bill for $76.32 which I paid. I thought the price was unfair for the service I got and called Mr. Comstock. He got so mad at me when I complained about the price that he ultimately tore up my check. I received a bill today, 7 July 2012, with a late fee attached.
Response from Comstock Plumbing LLC
"So sorry for your bad experience. Unfortunately in this economy we cannot drive to your house fix your problem (however minor it is) and not charge for time and gas. The rudeness you claim you recieved was after cursing at my employee about the minimum charge. You ultimately were not charged anything after your tangent, therefore you got your plumbing fixed for nothing and still bad mouthed us. Shame, shame. I hope you have a pleasant future."
