At Grace Animal Hospital, the waiting room is large enough to accommodate a good number of pets and their owners, but my husband and I and our two dogs were the only ones there. (The photography featured on the walls is fantastic, by the way.) We waited between 10 and 15 minutes and then were back in an exam room.
Dr. Farrah and the technician both took time to meet our dogs, asking their names and giving the dogs time to become comfortable with them. Dr. Farrah reviewed the dogs' medical histories carefully and was able to fully examine both dogs including a prostate check on our old boy. She definitely took her time and carefully and accurately read our young female dog's body language and behavior before proceeding with the exam. When our girl bared her teeth -- she hates having her back legs touched -- Dr. Farrah took time to settle her back down. She did not declare that the dog was hostile or that she couldn't be examined or that she needed to be sedated. Within a few minutes, the exam was back on track and proceeded smoothly to the end.
I felt like the vet and the tech both did a fantastic job of interacting with me and my husband as well as with our two dogs. I have not had a vet take this much time nor give one of my dog's such a thorough exam for well over a decade and that vet was in another state. I would highly recommend Grace Animal Hospital. It was clean and spacious. Staff was all very friendly and professional. Vet was amazingly thorough and clearly liked the dogs. That seems like it should be a given but in my experience, it sure is not as common as one would expect!
First, it was the cleanest, most attractive vet office I've ever been in. Unlike other vets we've been to, we did not wait at all, and were seen by the vet at exactly our appointment time. The staff was so wonderful and helpful, and I couldn't be happier with the people we dealt with.
Dr. Farrah Atkins performed the most thorough physical exam I've ever seen in 25 years of dog ownership. She spent almost 30 minutes checking my dog from head to toe. She then informed us that while there may be a knee injury, she didn't think that was the main issue. She then did several x-rays (without drugging my dog). The problem turned out to be severe arthritis in her back. She gave us some anti-inflammatory meds to help her out and suggested a joint supplement. Dr. Atkins personally called us to check on our dog 2 days later to see how she was doing.
I am so glad we went to Grace! I really felt like she took the time to get to know us and our dog, and really spent time trying to find the source of the problem instead of just giving us pain killers and sending us home. Our dog is running around like a puppy again! Needless to say, all of our pets will now be going to Grace Animal Hospital!
