DO NOT USE!!!!! I had a warranty with A O Smith for my hot water heater. We called Modleys and they said they accept the Auth code for the diagnosis labor. It took several days of phone tag with Troy to get them to come out. He finally scheduled, then rescheduled. When he sent his technicians, out they were on my property for MAYBE a total of 30 minutes, and that's being generous, just to tell me the hot water heater needed replaced. The tech left his tools in the apartment and had to come back. They charged $291.50 for 2 & 1/2 hours of labor. Claiming it took too long for us to let them in. The water heater wasn't replaced by them, we installed the new one, and it was still under warranty. Seems like over charging is a habit Modleys has as Lisa had the same issue in her review a few months ago.

We were told it would be $70/hr. We heard back two days later at 1:10pm. The guys arrived at 1:15 and wrapped up at 3:30. They charged us $80/hr for three hours. They were here for 2.25 hours, and we are 5 minutes from Modleys. They didn't need any time to load up parts of materials. This is the second time they've significantly rounded up the time. I pointed out that they weren't here for three hours, but the plumber said he called at 12:45 (which is a lie), and that if he couldn't charge us for travel time (which should be at 10 minute round trip), then he wouldn't be in the business he's in. He didn't even check his phone log for the time of the call.

Modley's has been two my Mother's home two times in two months for the same problem. The problem was a sewer line that kept stopping up. The second time they were there I told them to find the problem and fix it instead of just unstopping it. They assured me it was fixed. The bill was 508$. 180$ the first time. Welllll, less than a month later same problem. This time I called Maxwell&Keyser plumbing which found the problem in about 20 minutes. A piece of older crushed pipe underneath concrete in the basement was the problem. They where great!! I called the owner of Modley's to complain and hopefully get a partial refund for my Mother. His reply was "if I could see underground I would not be in the plumbing business". Really, that was his response!!!

They were courteous and quick and had the sink in in less than an hour.

On the first day, they spent a great deal of time trying to isolate the leak. I felt as if they were intentionally trying to waste time. I tried to tell them where to dig, but they insisted on digging in an area about two feet over. After much wasted time, they eventually found a former repair job, the one I had told them to find. Then they discovered that they had brought inadequate supplies to install the shut off, as the piping was not standard size. Because of this error, they had to return on another day in order to get the parts and finish the job. In the end, they did properly install the shut off, but never found the leak. Additionally, since the leak was not found, they gave me an estimate for the work involved in finding the leak. $5000 - $6000....at a minimum. Not sure if they didn't want to do the work or if they were trying to rip me off because subsequent estimates were less than $2000 and that was with worst case scenario.
My major complaint pertains to the charges. First, they didn't tell me when I made the initial appointment that they would be charging for drive time. I understand now that this is sometimes common practice, which I was unaware of at the time, but it would have been great if they had told me during my first phone call or before they left my house the first day. I live approximately 30 minutes from their office, so without even doing any work they charged me $120 just for driving to and from my house on two different days. Had I known that, I would have called someone else. We had another plumber come out for a different job and he did not charge me for travel time. I assumed, and now am prepared for such behavior. Second, I made a point to observe the time in which they were at my house. In total, even with 2 hours drive time, they charged me seven hours!! Six hours would have been generous. Total labor = $420. Parts=$72.
Poor communication, poor service. Just go to their website, and you will see their opinion of women. Poor taste. I wish someone had warned me. Perhaps they would be good if you live five minutes from their office, but if you are in one of the many outlying areas of Raleigh, Fayette, or Mercer county, call someone else.
