Dance Instruction
I think I grew up at Dance Theatre School in the 1960s and early 70s. I can
remember taking my first tap class in the early 60's on the stage at the
YMCA (it was a theatre at that time and Mrs. Beard's Dance Class) and Mr. Rose being an
instructor. Jerry and Sherry Rose were wonderful and cared about all
the youth who attended. While I was no star, and probably a clumsy mess, I was never belittled and
always encouraged.. They looked at the students as a whole, not just
those who excelled. The school changed the face of cultural events in Beckley
from bringing in national acclaimed artist to Honey in the Rock an
subsequent shows. I only wish I had lived close by when I had young children
instead of 700 miles away so they could have had the same character building experience!
