Beckley Asphalt & Paving

There are only a couple of providers in our section.  After searching Angie's list we called two and asked for somebody to stop by and give us an estimate.  This was the busy season.  After a week or two Kevin Sigmund called and made an appointment with us for August 18.  He arrived  on schedule and worked up our plan and estimate.   He was very professional, courteous, and experienced.  He said they had a couple of big jobs scheduled and would work us in as soon as possible.  We were fine with this as we had no definite time table but wanted to beat the cold weather.  He called back a week or two later and made an appointment to do the work.  Rainy weather delayed the start for about a week.  Kevin and his crew came back after the rains and completed our work in a little over a day.  Work and crew were professional, did a great job, and a great cleanup.    P.S. the second provider we had contacted got back with us about two months after contact and after our work had been completed.

I received the estimate just before leaving the country on an extended trip.  The estimator told me the work would be done on the week of the 15th of October and agreed to then contact me once the work was done to take my credit card info for payment via e-mail.  The work was not done on the 15th and I heard nothing from them.  Then the following week I received an e-mail from an unknown source (not the estimator who I met previously) requesting my credit card info.  I immediately contacted Beckley Asphalt requesting them to confirm that this was their employee and that the work was completed.  They did confirm it and I e-mailed the credit card info.  All this took  one day since it was back and forth on the internet.  Then the next e-mail I received from them was to inform me that the credit card had been denied and they will add $418 per day to my bill until paid.  This is their e-mail:

Please note as a result of this not being ran or your bill being paid within
24-hours upon completion of the job, your bill is now $5200 + $418.00 at
(.08$) daily late fee addage. Your bill is now at $5618.00. I am
charged at the .08 rate through my creditors
for materials, etc. I have to pay all business costs within 24-hours or I
am charged accordingly.
 
Please clarify this matter immediately as if we have not rectified
this matter by close of banking business hours tomorrow, we will have an
accrual of .08% for each day of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
potentially. I ask that you email or call me immediately
with a solution to this matter.
I contacted my credit card company immediately and explained everything.  They told me the card should not have been denied and that they will handle it.  The credit card contacted Beckley Asphalt and explained the problem and that it was no fault of mine.  Although this was explained to them, Beckley Asphalt still intends to charge me 8% per day late fee ($418 per day).  The charge was processed 3 days after the work was completed and Beckley Asphalt charged me an additional $416.  It is now December and the over charge is still in dispute with my credit card company. 
I have no problem with the work done.  The problem is that Beckley Asphalt was a week late doing the job then charged me $416 for making the payment within 72 hours of the work being completed.

Owner gave an estimate within a few days of my calling the company. I contracted as the estimater was very professional and took time to cover all the details. We scheduled a week later and now we have an awesome driveway.
