I will call on him again for my next painting project.
I would highly recommend him to others and will also work with him again on future projects.
"[member name removed] were an absolute pleasure to work with and I look forward to doing any future work for them. Thank you for leaving such a nice review and I appreciate the time you took to write it. I enjoyed the challenge in working on an older home."
Tom stared by giving a clear estimate of what needed to be done. He could do everything on the exterior for a reasonable quote so we decided to use him. This is where Angie's list really comes in handy! Given the number of fly-by-night painters out there, I don't think we would have ever stumbled across Tom. He's been doing this for a LONG time so we put our trust in his experience and it turned out to be a VERY good experience.
After he had the back of the house cleaned and primed and ready to paint, Tom painted some primed cedar plank samples to give us an idea of how the paint would look on the house. He climbed up the ladder and held them up so we could get a feel for what the color would truly look like on the house. One of the samples looked beautiful on the ground - but on the house looked a little more "orange" than tan. Thank goodness he took the time to consult with us on this as the new color choice saved us much grief, time and added expense.
Tom also took extra care with the old cedar. It had clearly baked in the sun for years and years. This made priming a real chore. He could have easily slapped on a coat of primer and be done with it. Instead, he continued to prime until the wood was ready to take the paint. Again, this is the RIGHT way to do it and he would have it no other way.
Along the way, he found areas that needed more attention. There was a rotted soffit, a rotted piece of window construction, a broken porch rail, and a missing piece of flashing from the roof. He fixed all three for what I'd consider very nominal charges.
Also, we had vines growing up one side of the house. Somehow, he got the entire side of the house clean before painting. Not an easy task since the vines had suction cups that leached into the old aluminum siding.
During the painting, Tom was also able to work on a few other interior jobs such as installing a new laminate countertop. He also contracted out a new rear door, glass block windows. All was done to perfection!
In the end, the house turned out BEAUTIFUL! It's like a new home! If you're thinking about hiring Tom, I can't say enough about his work ethic and quality of workmanship! He's very easy to work and is very respectful. Also, he's not a salesman or pitchman - he'll clearly identify what needs to be done, give you a quote, and the rest is your decision. I will certainly be using him in the future!
Tom wasn't able to make our 1st appointment, but was extremely professional and called to reschedule. He did show up to do the estimate at our 2nd appointment. He talked me through every step of the job, and what it was going to take to make our stairs look pretty again. He Removed old Finish and stain by hand sanding each step, he conditioned the bare wood to prep for new stain, then, stained, filled holes, primer and painted and poly (several coats) to complete the project. He also taped everything off to keep the project as clean as he could
Tom is not happy when the project isn't done to his or the customer's satisfaction. His attention to detail is like none I've never seen. Will definitely call on Tom again.
"Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice review. You were nice and very pleasant to work for and I look forward to providing any future work you may have. Please feel free to call me in the future."
