"(Member name removed), Thank you for your feedback. We do competitor price checks to ensure that we stay as low if not lower priced than veterinary clinics in our area. I would love to discuss this more with you and gauge what services were performed. Please feel free to call me at your convenience. Sincerely, Kelly Cronin, Operations Manager (262) 789-1954"
The day after the surgery a staff member from the vet called to check on the cat. As I was having issues giving her the meds (the cat hid and would not come out) Dr. Katrin personally called me later that day. She suggested that instead of doing the large volume of liquid antibiotic that is required, that they could inject a shot that would last 10-14 days, so I said yes! Since then I have spoken with Dr. Katrin a several times. The cat desperately needed more pain meds (it was really extensive surgery for a little kitty) and the cat was also having issues with the new food required because of her recent kidney disease diagnosis. Dr. Katrin responded quickly to my calls and I was able to get more meds on a Sunday. Every time I called or visited Mayfair Animal Hospital all of the staff has been very friendly, kind and understanding. Dr. Katrin in particular has exhibited much kindness, compassion and patience in dealing with my fussy little cat and me. I can't thank her enough for all her advice and her genuine concern for my cat.
Happily the cat is feeling better about her mouth and while she is not thrilled with her new diet, she is adjusting.
We are currently paying for a flat-rate annual plan, so I can't state pricing information for individual services. I will say that the plan we have is very nice. For about $60 per month (which is specific to puppy services...much lower cost annual plans are available for adult dogs), we have the option for unlimited exams/visits, all puppy vaccinations included, spay/neutering included and more. According to their notes, this annual plan saves about $500 per year for puppy services.
After completing simple paperwork we were quickly ushered into a treatment room. They did not mind that three of us crowded in. The tech was very loving to our frightened cat and also very kind to my young daughter, who was panicking because our cat was sick. Dr. Dhillon examined our pet and asked for our description of her symptoms. His follow-up questions showed that he listened closely and very much wanted to pinpoint the problem. He gave us options for proceeding which I greatly appreciated. We chose to have him treat the apparent problem, an infected lip ulcer, with injections of steroids and antibiotics.
When we left they gave us printed information about our cat's problem. While a nice gesture, the handout was fairly technical and it would have been more helpful to receive information about preventing recurrence, what to watch for, etc.
I liked the fact that they did not attempt to sell us products, extra services, insurance or other pitches we have previously experienced at vets' offices.
We had a great experience and I will definitely use them for my cat's care in the future, both emergency and non-emergency.
UPDATE 6/22: Our cat has greatly improved and almost completely healed.
As an old vet tech, I know an urgent care situation when I see one. I was surprised when our normal vet's receptionist wasn't even willing to ask the vet to get us seen. Our dog's anal gland was the size of a golf ball and I knew it couldn't wait. (Consequently I felt like a bad Mom for not noticing it earlier.) Our groomer recommended the vet and I couldn't have been happier.
Dr. Erin Reyes, DMV was attentive and he was seen within an hour of me calling the hospital. He was sedated, gland flushed, given antibiotics and pain meds. His recovery has not been as easy as we would have anticipated and the staff has been wonderful fitting us in for follow ups on a daily basis for additional anti-nausea injections, additional care of the wound, and reassurance. I couldn't be happier and more grateful for their care. Needless-to-say, we have transferred all of our vet care to Dr. Reyes and our old vet received a letter explaining our departure from his practice.
