It was a Saturday and I called Ric's and told them about the problem.
They were on a call already, but stated I would be the next place they went.
They were here AMAZINGLY FAST; I didn't even get time to finish salting the walk to provide them safe passage.
Both father and son were extremely courteous and pleasant.
While the son was putting the auger through the main sewer line, I asked the father if he could tell me what kind of tool I needed to remove the plug from the floor drain clean out. I had attempted to remove it, but the shape was a strange countersunk square. Even Home Depot had never heard of such a plug. He said it was indeed quite an odd thing, and even he didn't have a tool for it! But he went straight away at it with a chisel until it popped out and he replaced it with a new one that I would be able to remove if I ever need to use the clean out.
At the same time the son hit roots with the auger and the job was done.
They were up and out in a flash, and while I was paying the bill, the father grabbed my shovel and finished off a section of the driveway I hadn't yet gotten to (since I had been trying unsuccessfully to clear the floor drain with a small snake). Talk about great people!
Ric's Sewer Service will be the first one I call if I ever need sewer service again. I sure hope it's not too soon though! :)
My septic tank did not appear to be draining. I called up a couple of plumbing companies that listed septic tanks and drainfield work . one place never returned my call , and the other place said I'd need a new drainfield, and/or septic tank [ over the phone ],and it would cost $1000.00 in fees/permits/perk tests , etc. before even starting work on the project. The drainfield would cost $4000-$6000 and the septic tank might be a couple thousand more. Also the drainfield couldn't be in the same location as the old one.I was told someone would call me about coming out to look at the tank. After one week a guy finally left a message. All this time we were not flushing the toilets more than once a day, and not using the sinks. In the meantime,I found Ric's Sewer Service in the phone book, and called them. Ric told me that the septic tank outlet was probably plugged, and just needed cleaning out. He was right. We set up a time to have the tank pumped out when Ric was here. He actually went down into the septic tank after it was pumped out, and showed me that the rear drain baffle had eroded away and the drain was indeed plugged up. He replaced the baffle with a plastic one, that wouldn't erode, cleaned out the drain, and the drainfield lines, and drainfield vent,.No one else had mentioned cleaning and repairing the tank. To my knowledge, Ric's is the only business in the area that does this kind of work. He saved me several thousand dollars, plus having to relocate the drainfield. If you have any drain problems, CALL RIC FIRST! He can save you a lot of money and headaches.
only fixed my problem but explained why it was a problem and what I
could do to prevent it happening again!
