"[Member Name Removed], Thank you so much for the kind words. The guys really enjoyed working with your husband. The crew really appreciates it when people recognize their hard work, thanks again !"
"You’re so welcome glad we got it done before winter hit. Michael"
"Metropolitan Fence has been in business for over 31 years with thousands of satisfied customers. We offer one of the best warranties in the business which is 7 years on the fence itself. When it was installed, I recall the customer being satisfied with the quality of the fence and our work. After this fence had been in place for over 12 years (May 2007 completed) this customer first contacted us regarding issues with their posts. I explained that their fence was outside of the warranty period, and thus did not qualify for a free repair. In my professional opinion, the problems they are having is due to a localized water issue and a deep frost that we experienced this past winter. The large remainder of the fence has no issues. We feel a seven year warranty is substantial and reasonable. Since they were our original customer, I offered to repair the work at a significant discount despite the fact that the fence was out of warranty for 5 years. We do strive for 100% satisfaction within our warranty period, however this situation was well beyond a reasonable amount of time."
During the quote, Mike told me the fence would be beautiful. I assumed that was fence guy talk. I could not imagine that a fence would be beautiful, but it is!
Team was great.
My landscape was a bit challenging, but they worked around it and went the extra mile.
I could not be happier with this work!
It really is a stunning fence!
The whole process from the time we called for an estimate to the time it was finished was about one month. Metro was ready to install our fence about a week earlier than we were, as we were waiting for our property survey to come back and to get the building permit. Once they actually came to install the fence, it took a couple of days. They came on a Friday to dig holes for the posts and then finished early the next week. We received our bill a few days after the project was completed and it was exactly what they quoted in the estimate.
Overall they did a great job, our fence looks very nice and was worth every penny. Our neighbor was so impressed with their work that he is having his yard finished off by Metro now too.
All I wanted was to resolve the issue. I don't go around getting a lawyer to sue or anything like that. I took out the permit, didn't want to make a big deal out of it as in the big picture the fence is beautiful and I didn't want any issues. I like Mike and his guys do an excellent job, however, the reason I will not recommend him or go back to him in the future is because of how he reacted when this problem came up, which now gives me a view of really how he handles things if he comes across an issue that could point to him. He assumes either that I am either not too bright or that I wouldn't ask around. On our last phone call, he still try to put on us about the permit, that it was our responsibility. Please!!! I had let the permit thing go but after I spoke to him that last time I was completely disappointed that he still would try to avoid responsibility when he brought up the plot of survey document that we supposedly did not provide for him. He could have taken that information from the city or called again to remind us that he couldn't put the fence without that document and we would have gladly done it (we just moved to this house and we showed him the documents we had so we assumed that was enough). He never called about that document before the fence was installed. I know that contractors deal often with customers that are aggressive when they hit an issue with a product, but we aren't that way. We can talk and come to a solution. All he needed to say was 'I am sorry about the trouble we caused you, and thanks for being understanding' or something like that and I would have never looked back and would have recommended him for having the integrity to back up his excellent work. Unfortunately that was not the case so this is the last time I will be doing any business with him.
"At our original meeting I did tell the customer and her husband that they are responsible for the survey, the permit and removal of dirt as stated on our contract. We work in hundreds of different municipalities throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Every municipality and subdivision have their own regulations and rules. It would be impossible for a fence company to know them all. Every fence company that I know of in my 35 years of business has the same requirements: the customer is responsible for the permit. When I found out that the customer was having a problem I immediately got on the phone with the building inspector and the engineering inspector and got it taken care of in less than 24 hours! The customer called me numerous times to thank me for all that I had done for her. I'm sorry there was a breakdown in communication at our original meeting regarding the survey and permit. I'm glad she's enjoying the wonderful quality and keeping her children inside the yard and the maintenance free fence for years to come!"
