The next day, my husband gets out to the house only to find it 40 degrees once again in the house and the furnace not on. We again called Kleckers and told them the furnace was off again. They sent someone out right away again which was great. This time the technician ended up replacing a total of 3 parts (mind you - on a 25 year old furnace). Not once did the technician come talk with my husband or explain what he was doing, what he diagnosed or how much it would be. After the parts were replaced, the furnace kicked in. The technician came up and gave us the bill for another $540.00. We said thank you and he was on his way. About an hour or so after the technician left, the furnace stopped again! My husband tried to troubleshoot a few things before calling them back again and getting another bill. He adjusted the pvc exhaust/intake pipes on the exterior of the house and after about 25 minutes of work, the furnace kicked on and has been running ever since with no problems.
I called and spoke with the owner at Kleckers regarding the bill and told him I thought it was a bit much for anyone to want to stick more than $700 into a 25 year old furnace. He agreed with my point but advised us to pay the bill anyways. It was almost as though he would rather argue on the phone than resolve the issue. He told me that when we decide to replace the furnace, which I told him it'd be spring, that they would be able to take the parts out of our furnace that they replaced and re-use them. We since received an estimate from them to replace the furnace for an obscene amount which included the previous service call.
Had the technician explained to us how much it was going to cost or had any type of communication with us while he was replacing parts, we would have decided to probably just replace the furnace instead of waiting another 2 months and sticking even more money into a lost cause.
"Thank you for this kind and partially accurate review. We do our best to please everyone. This customer’s trouble call came in during the coldest part of the winter when the customer was installing drywall at this unoccupied home. The customer needed heat quickly. Our technician got the furnace heating per the customer’s request. There was, indeed, communication on both visits between the customer and our technician on the job. The first invoice, dated 1/20/14, came to $160 before tax. That was paid when our technician finished the job with the furnace running and heating. The second invoice, dated 1/22/14, came to $508.30 before tax. Our technician did what he had to do to get the furnace running. The customer, Mr. ** left the job before our technician finished so we needed to mail the invoice. After a few conversations with Mrs.** we reduced the amount from $508.30 to $214.88 and that was paid 3/14/14. Total receipt from this job was $374.88 before taxes. The furnace ran and heated for the rest of the winter. Per our mutually agreed upon resolution, we allowed the customer to “borrow” the brand new circuit board that we installed in that furnace. Our circuit board was in use until the last week of March when we received the word from the customer that our technician can come over and remove the borrowed board. We absorbed the cost of our technician’s return trip and the use of this board that we can no longer sell as new. There was conversation regarding replacing the furnace between myself, the Service Coordinator, and the customer, Mr.**. A couple of days after the second repair our comfort consultant visited the job and talked with Mr.**. The quote we provided was for a higher end furnace per the conversation. It was indeed more expensive than a basic furnace quote. The telephone “arguments” that went on were between myself and Mrs.**, not the business owner. It's easy, but unfair to play "armchair quarterback" after the fact and claim "coulda - shoulda - woulda". We did what we could to solve the immediate problem in the dead of a very cold winter, then solve another problem after the fact with an unhappy customer. We have been committed to honesty, value and customer service since 1979. We really tried to cooperate with and satisfy this customer. We’re disappointed and surprised that she felt it was necessary to leave a negative review with Angie’s List."
