I had received quotes from four other contractors and this quote was higher than one, comparable to another and lower than the other two. I called him and he worked with us on specifics for the job and pricing. He came out with his track hoe and removed the concrete stairs, sidewalk and a side rock wall (made entirely out of huge field stones) very carefully (this was part of an old farmhouse cystern wall and it supported the back part of the house so it was tricky work). Then he used his equipment and measuring lasers to accurately dig the footings to the specifications on the plans and regrade the area around the addition (he had to dig down over three feet to get it level). He was there two days and he removed the field stone to an area we marked off and then dug out two huge tree stumps that were in the way of the regrading work and removed them, too. He was efficient and did a good job explaining to me what he was doing and why. I also brought my three year old son over to see the big "digger" and Marvin was really nice to him and offered to have him sit inside with him. We are having some additional work done that will require further excavating and regrading before the winter comes and I have already called Marvin to let me know if he will be available to do the work for us. His wife, Kathy, does the bookwork and she is very nice and efficient, also. She emailed the proposal to me in a timely fashion and then sent out the bill after Marvin did the work. She always returned my calls promptly and was just a joy to talk to. We would recommend Giese Excavating to anyone who needed a dependable and knowledgeable operator.
