I was stunned, and I quickly told the nurse that we were bringing in a healthy cat for a flea medicine refill, and a and quot;get to know the officeand quot; kind of visit, and that I would find it highly suspect if the vet wanted to order expensive tests and procedures. The receptionist asked if they could price match Walmart's cost would we fill the prescription there, and I say yes, provided they accept my credit card, which they didn't. During this conversation, I actually said that it looked as if they were trying to find some other form of compensation for the $1.00 coupon. Then I said that I would discuss anything further with the vet after she saw my cat. With raised eyebrows, the nurse/receptionist left the room without another word.
The vet came in, and she seemed really nice. She was gentle with our cat, and made some suggestions for better cleaning of her old ears, and we left on the premise that if our cat continued to show any discomfort in her ears we would return in a week to ten days for further treatment. We were satisfied with the vet, and she did not try to push up costs. She gave us a prescription for the flea meds, for a three month supply and we paid our dollar and left the office.
After going to the cash machine, and having no luck filling the script for our cat, we returned to the vet to fill the 3 month supply of flea meds., but when we returned they refused to price match and were very rude to us. Honestly, if you are going to offer and honor a $1.00 first office visit for a new pet, then do it with grace, and treat your customers with dignity. Otherwise, don't offer the coupon at all!
Update: 9/4/13 - Received call from Vet in reference to this review. He has decided to be vindictive, and refused to approve the prescription for our elderly cats flea medicine. Did not consider his own agencies practices at all.
"While the review I am responding to is not very flattering, the facts are not completely correct as stated. Therefore, I am just going to state the facts and people can make their own decision. The initial appointment was not a wellness check as stated; it was to check the ears. I am sorry you felt you had an extended wait upon arrival. We do ask new clients to come 15 minutes early to fill out paper work, which this client did arriving at 1:10 pm. This client was put into the exam room at 1:27 pm 3 minutes prior to her scheduled 1:30 pm appointment. The detailed info sheet so described was a standard veterinary sign in sheet used by many clinics- name, address, work, contact numbers, referral source and pet info. We receive 2-300 of our $1 coupons a year. If the receptionist being referred to in this case as rude and unhappy would be so, I am thinking I would have heard about it by now. She has worked for us for 6 years without one complaint in her personnel file. As far as the price match she is referring to, we were willing to price match the 6 tubes that the other company was willing to dispense. The client wanted only 3 tubes which the other company would not dispense. Therefore, there was no price match of three tubes when they would only dispense her 6 at a time. I feel it is a good service to price match when I can, but why would I price match something someone else is not offering. As far as the ears go it is highly unlikely and adult cat has ear mites. This would be one of the reasons why we asked about ear cytology, to identify the actual cause of the ear problem, not just treat something that is not likely there. The other reasons we asked about the ear cytology is because a lot of people with the dollar coupon are on a limited budget and we did not want to run a procedure one without asking for permission and two they could not pay for. Lastly, as far as payment goes we accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Care Credit, cash or check and unfortunately none of these choices were able to be offered by this client. Hopefully, this will help explain some of the misunderstandings this person had with her recent visit."
