We hired American Garage Builders in Sept 2024 to rebuild our garage, completed in Dec 2024. The process was full of issues. Our salesperson quit minutes before signing, leaving us scrambling to sign before winter. They didnt follow setback regualtions and then threatened us to have to pay to have the slab moved. The permitting was mishandled; we had to contact the City of West Allis ourselves, later learning the company was fined and never scheduled final inspection. Materials were poor?a dented door replaced with the wrong color, misaligned roof joists, a hole in the roof, bad trim, and they never cleaned up the debris?we did it in the snow. Despite paying nearly $50K, unpaid subcontractors threatened a lien. Less than a year later, the garage door failed. A third-party found plastic rollers, old parts, and unsafe installation. Repairs cost $1,525. Poor workmanship, lack of oversight, and no accountability. Proceed with caution if hiring this company.

DO NOT have concrete work provided by the company. The driveway is less than one year old and has over 70 chips in a small area. They continue with excuses and refuse to inspect the damage which is likely the result of poor workmanship and/or material. Both items warranted by the company. Their solution is that I should have the driveway repaired so it doesn’t continue to chip away. A complaint has been filed with BBB with the same excuses. My advice is to look for a different company.

The garage itself is mostly ok. The process and "service" has been a never-ending nightmare. The project has taken a year, is still incomplete and has been plagued with terrible communication and mistakes. The general contractor goes MIA for weeks and months, with no response to our communications. The job of of a general contractor is to coordinate, schedule and communicate. Our American Garage contact failed to anticipate issues or plan appropriately. Concrete pouring was delayed for over a month due to tree leaves. The wrong siding was ordered which resulted in significant delays. The wrong trim was initially installed and after it was fixed 5+ months later, it has a water-logged finish and dents. This, after the contractor waited for us to point it the trim issues before admitting they installed the wrong trim and doing the right thing up front. The siding was installed without an appropriate gap. The electrician did not install lighting the contract called for until we complained and badgered for weeks. The builders left a giant mess we had to complain about to get cleaned up. The worker who did the grading tried to charge us extra on the side. Some of these issues are sadly to be expected with construction, but the terrible communication, the amount of badgering we've had to do and the length of the project has left such a negative impression that we want others to know of our poor experience with American Garage. Beware.

Excellent experience from start to finish with no hidden surprises. Mike told me exactly what to expect from the beginning to the end of the project . There were no hidden fees or costs. Everything was documented and explained clearly to me. In fact I made a few minor changes and additions and those with documented also. Their concrete subcontractor also did an excellent job. After the concrete had cured the garage was built in one day. Everyone in the neighborhood was surprised because they went to work in the morning and there was no garage and by the time they came home it was completely done. The overall quality of the garage seems very good and as good as stick built garages that I have had done that took a lot longer. We are very happy with our experience with American garage builders.

First off I can't say enough about their service Rep. Bill, he was there from start to finish and was able to address any concerns I had about the job. He explained everything that would happen in what order from the tear-down of my old garage, the laying of the new concrete, the building of my garage and the electrical work involved in the new installation. The tear-down of my old garage went fairly quick. The concrete removal was really a problem as we had a couple days of heavy rain and the ground was saturated so much it turned into a mud pit, but after a couple days of sunny weather the new cement was laid no problem. The day they came to put up the garage it rained all day long with just a few breaks. I give the workers credit for working through the whole day. They started at approx. 7:00am and finished up the same day at approx. 5:30pm. I couldn't be more happy with the job they did. They cleaned up after and the area around the garage was all cleaned up. Though the price was somewhat high they were in line with other estimates I received. I would definitely recommend American Garage Builders.

I signed the contract in December in order to be early on their spring list. After a hard winter, they were able to tear down my old garage and remove all debris the week before Memorial day. The team was amazon. They removed the garage and cement in a half day. Due to rain, the foundation crew arrived yesterday to level the area and set the frame for the new foundation. The cement was poured today. Stay tuned for the next phases, but I am 100% happy with the work done so far. The crews were amazing, working very hard and cleaning up after themselves. The slab will now crd for two weeks and the garage will be erected the third week in June. Everything has gone as promised. After requesting two other estimates where contractors made a call and never followed through with a bid--I couldn't be happier.

The work was done with professionalism on time and with good communication. Every aspect was taken care of to our satisfaction.

We had to wait several months because of an existing wait-list and the fact that the ground was too wet to get to the site.

We called a few different builders to come give us an estimate to build a garage. One company needed $500 to give us an estimate and plans. While we might have been willing to do that if we were building our dream kitchen, it seemed too complicated for a standard garage. Next, Mike Crawley from American Garage Builders came out to our house and listened to what we wanted. I wanted a structure that had a touch of vintage since we have a Victorian home. He showed us some different roof lines and we picked a bull hip roof line to give it a vintage look. We then went into the house and sat down at our kitchen table while he drew out the plan on paper and got every detail we asked for. Mike was at our home for approximately two and a half hours. When Mike left we knew exactly what we were getting for the amount of money were spending. Mike was very knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. He has been in the business for many years.
Mike communicated with us very well and his contractors were on time, every time. The contractors were very hard workers, picked up after themselves and asked us if they had any questions. There was one problem with one aspect of the build that was not done correctly. When we pointed it out to the contractor he offered to correct it but we were able to come to an agreement. He was not defensive, but wanted to make it right for us, the customer. We were satisfied with the outcome.
We were shocked that the garage went up in two days. We were very happy with the end product and would recommend American Garage Builders to anyone building a garage. Our garage looks great and we are so happy not to have to clear snow and scrape ice off our windows this winter. Working with Mike, his contractors and American Garage Builders was a great experience.

Mike Crawley was punctual for the first, and every, appointment and provided exact and reliable information. The quote was comparable to others that we got. The work was performed excellently well and was exactly as described. The work was done exactly on schedule and the only variation from the quoted price was due to a minor change we requested mid-job: American was flexible about accommodating the change and charged exactly the agreed-upon amount. We were quite happy with the quality of the work and materials and with the final result. We were very pleased and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Overall the project went exactly as described by Mike Crawley. Buildings are always weather dependant, but they did a very good job working around the wet spring.
