I explained the problem and set an appt. The owner did not show for the appointment. I called to remind him. He arrived and found the door was the problem. He charged me $70 for a service call and $15 to adjust the door. When I made the appt. he did not disclose any service charge nor does their website say anything about a service charge. He lives 5 minutes from our office. He charged $89 for 5-10 min of work. We had used their service before and was not charged anywhere close to this fee. He came to our place of work and made 5 keys for me and only charged me $25 at that time. Our company will not hire them again nor will we recommend.

We had a lock fail that secured the side door to our garage. I called a couple different locksmiths before L&U but they were too busy to come out. Could only schedule for a week from the time I called. Jake of L&U was in the Madison area when I called and offered to stop over as soon as he finished with a customer. He gave me an estimated time and showed up at that time.
He removed the damaged lock and determined it was under lifetime warranty. We set up a time for him to come back and put in the new lock.  He contacted the manufacturer and obtained the lock. He showed up on time as scheduled. He made some minor adjustments to prevent the lock from future damage.
This guy is good. He understands customer service. Told me what I needed to know about the lock and what he did. On time. Cleaned up the area when he finished. I would definitely use him again.

It went very well. We called on Tuesday to set an appointment for Thursday. They accomodated our request without any trouble. On Thursday, the locksmith called and asked if we could move up our appointment time. That was fine with us. He showed up right on time. He did the work quickly and made suggestions for two issues with our current locks. He was professional and courteous. We would absolutely use this company again if we have a future need.

I just bought a new place and the previous owners said they never had keys to the garage door since they never locked it. The front door key didn't work in the garage door, and I wanted a key for the garage door just in case. Called Jake and made an appointment. He was on time, friendly, and fast. Took him probably 10 min. or less. I'll use Jake again if I ever have a need for additional "lock" work!

This provider was very efficient, professional, and timely.  He was extremely helpful.

I was on a long bike ride and came home to discover that my lock had broken and I couldn't get into my house. I checked Angie's list and called two locksmiths that listed lockouts in their description. I left a message for the first one on the list and still have not received a call back. Jake from Locks and Unlocks answered right away and was my house within 45 minutes. He quickly installed a new lock, made me a new key and even swept the floor when he was done. I feel the price was very reasonable for such last minute service. Jake turned what could have been a major inconvenience into a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend this business.

One of our house keys was stolen out of our sons truck.  It made me very nervous to have this floating around.  I called Jake the next day and he came out within 30minutes and rekeyed all the locks on my doors.  He was quick and professional.  I have used this company in the past and would use them in the future!

Great experience with my first Angie's List provider. Jake was professional, thorough and efficient.
Re-keyed 3 doors for a total of 4 locks. Jake had to adjust the strike plates as well.

Our old house has an old door whose old key was taken and lost by our young kids. We had borrowed the local antique store's entire collection of old keys to see if one would work in the lock, and none did. We were researching different ways to fasten the front door after a neighborhood event made us want to hurry up and finish this project, and contacted Jake. He came right over, discussed options with Beth, disassembled our lock, found an unrelated defect for us to remedy in the future, oiled and reassembled the lock, *and* came up with a skeleton key that works, so we're able to deadbolt the door. We'll always call Jake with our locksmithing needs in the future.

I only have great things to say about Jake.  He has helped me, personally, getting copies of keys for my car (spares to hide as I lock myself out of my car on occasion) plus he is helping my clients rekey their new homes.  He is a perfectionist, a hard worker and very talented and does everything in his mobile shop !!  I am very impressed with his service and prices.

It is obvious that Jake loves his job.  I never gave too much thought to locksmithing (unless I'd locked my keys in the car), but Jake was very informative and even passionate about the importance of adequately keyed locks for the security of your home.  He came to my house to do a free security inspection, but in the 24 hours between when I made my appointment and when he arrived (exactly on the dot on time btw) I thought I would rather just have him fix my bad locks and not do the inspection.  So Jake rescheduled with me for the next day.  Again, he arrived exactly on time.
Jake took apart one of my locks and showed me that the plate on the door was held in place with a screw that was shorter than 1".  He showed me the type of screw that should be used, which was much much bigger.  He said that only that little screw was keeping my lock secure and it was definately not going to do the job against an intruder.
He looked repaired three exterior locks for me, some of which never did line up properly or were never installed too well in the first place.  Now all my locks slide with ease, and I feel so much more secure.  He noticed that we had a door in the garage where we never did install the deadbolt and he had one on his truck in brushed nickel so he installed that too.

When I realized that my house key was missing from my key ring, I called Locks and Unlocks.  I selected them because they are located in Stoughton (I am appx. 7 miles away in Pleasant Springs), and because of the very positive feedback here on Angie's List.  I called at 8:30 a.m., and was told that someone would be here at 9:15 a.m.  Jake arrived at exactly 9:15!  He re-keyed 3 door knobs and 2 deadbolt locks in just 30 minutes.  Jake was very professional, and very friendly.  I would recommend Locks and Unlocks highly - I would definitely use them again!
