LANCER TV

Dropped my TV off at Lancer. Found the shop to be very clean, organized and friendly. Wrote a deposit of $50 to diagnose. Deposit would apply if TV could be repaired. Received a call just a few days later with news that the screen had been damaged and could not be repair. Even though they couldn't fix my tv for the cost of a new unit they gave me the option. I feel they were very up front and honest. I will use Lancer in the future and was very impressed by them.

I delivered the TV to their location and asked for an estimate for repair which they did give me and amounted to $350. I gave the okay for the repair. Out of curiosity, I started doing some research online and found out within minutes that this is an extremely common problem with Samsung TVs. The capacitors and power supply boards burn out within 2-3 years. The capacitors can be purchased for around $10 and may fix the problem. If replacing the capacitors didn't work, a power supply circuit board goes for $112. I called Lancer TV to request that they save the parts they took out of the TV as I was going to attempt to go after Samsung to recoup some of this cost and would need them as Exhibit A. I still had every intention of having Lancer TV fix the TV. However, the man on the other end of the phone immediately became defensive about the part and started going on about "core" costs and whatever else and how that would be such a hassle for him. We're talking about a circuit board here. I inquired whether the TV had even been fixed. He said it was taken apart but they were waiting on the part from Samsung. His defensiveness completely turned me off. I was beginning to suspect they knew about this problem and instead of possibly just replacing the capacitors, they were gouging me. I told him to just put the TV back together and I would come and get it. His response was (and I am quoting his exact words here), "You know you're going to pay me for that." A better way to respond may have been, "no problem, it will be here when you get here." In any case, I'll either fix the TV myself or get it fixed somewhere else.

They came and took my television because I could not carry it. They supposedly fixed it and brought it back. After about a day and a half it started messing up again. I called them to come back and get it. They kept it about six weeks. This time they brought it and it worked about two days. I offered them the TV just to figure out what was wrong. My wife and I and our neighbor took the TV to the dump and had it crushed. We paid about $173 dollars for a repair that was never done. I called and asked for a reimbursement for some of the money. They told me the warranty was not valid after 90 days and they didn't have to give me any money.
